Let creativity reign when planning a fantastic weekend honeymoon. Did you know that honeymoons used to last a month? Since circumstance (and responsibilities) has necessitated the shortening of honeymoons by the majority of the population, there is no designated standard honeymoon duration. So, whether a lack of vacation time or financial resources results in an abbreviated celebration of your newly wedded bliss, don’t let the amount of time discourage you. In fact, because time is of the essence, and there are only three days to enjoy, now’s the time to step it up a notch and be inspired to make every minute count! Use the following five tips to plan a honeymoon weekend to remember.

  1. If you’ve already successfully combined residences and things are put away, if relaxation and alone time are desired, stay in for the entire weekend. Tell everyone you’re taking a romantic honeymoon weekend, no need to tell them where, and simply ignore any distractions that may arise. As an indulgence and a necessity, either arrange to eat out for the weekend at special or meaningful locations, or hire a chef to prepare and serve your meals at home for complete privacy.
  2. If the idea of home does not evoke thoughts of romance, take the show on the road and find another location. A bed and breakfast might be a nice way to find a romantic, affordable setting for a delightful weekend honeymoon. Not only will it provide a change of scenery, but with breakfast and sometimes lunches included, that leaves dinner open for quiet romantic meals in your restaurants of choice.
  3. If you’re into nature, a weekend camping trip is a great way to be together. Think of the romantic setting of the two of you alone, gazing up at a sky full of bright, radiant stars and the opportunity to burrow into a nice warm sleeping bag comfortably designed for two. Not only is camping quite affordable, but with the fresh air, you’re bound to sleep well and return home refreshed and relaxed.
  4. Spend the weekend doing something totally indulgent. Book yourselves into the most fabulous local hotel there is and enjoy all of its amenities! Yes, all! Take advantage of in-room Jacuzzis, couple’s massages, facials, manis and pedis, enjoy romantic dinner’s for two via room service, or go out on the town for a fabulous evening of fun. Whatever your passion, let the sky be the limit for your weekend honeymoon.
  5. If a willing friend has a great nearby cabin, condo, beach house, chalet, etc. say thanks and hightail it out of town for the weekend. Not only will no one know where you are (except your friend, of course), but you get the opportunity to explore a new location, and make new memories together. Short of gas and food, this could be a great honeymoon for a couple on a budget. If no one knows a friend with to-die-for digs, look for a timeshare or rental.

When planning a fantastic weekend honeymoon, remember to take both parties into consideration. Your honeymoon can be as quiet or lively as you wish, but with careful planning it can also be fabulous.
