The Yankton Police Department works to safeguard lives and property, maintain law and order, and preserve peace through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. It operates administration, communication and support units. The department s K-9 division undertakes narcotic detection, apprehension, tracking, building searches and evidence recovery. The Yankton Police department also handles drug arrests, apprehension of wanted suspects, and vehicle and currency seizures. Its animal control unit relocates stray animals to shelter.
