2-1-1 is the telephone number set aside by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for information and referral on human services, and it facilitates the critical connections between people seeking to get or give help, and the appropriate agencies. In 2009, 2-1-1 provided critical connections for more than 16 million callers nationwide Whether a personal crisis or national disaster, everyone in Wayne and Holmes Counties will now have a place to turn, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Just as 9-1-1 connects callers with emergency services, 2-1-1 InfoLink connects people to important human services from a range of nonprofit, government and faith-based agencies. While services vary from community to community, 2-1-1 InfoLink provides callers with information about and referrals for every days needs in the time of crisis. For example, 2-1-1 InfoLink can offer access to the following types of resources: Basic Human Needs: Food banks, served meals, clothing resources, shelters, rent and utility assistance Physical and Mental Health Needs: Health insurance programs, Medicaid and Medicare, maternal health, children's health, medical information lines, crisis intervention services, support groups, counseling, drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation Employment Needs: Financial assistance, job training, transportation assistance and education programs Support for Older Individuals and Persons with Disabilities: Adult day care, congregate meals, respite care, home health care, transportation and homemaker services Support for Children, Youth and Families: Childcare, after-school programs, family resource centers, summer camps and recreational programs, mentoring, tutoring and protective services Volunteer Opportunities and Donations To access 2-1-1 InfoLink, simply dial 2-1-1 from your home or cell phone.
