My daughter and I have always enjoyed visiting Mayfair Jewelers at the Woodbury location and we had planned to go to their new location in Syosset this afternoon. I was planning to purchase two nameplate necklaces for two granddaughters whose birthdays are in March. I had just left the Monter Cancer Center where I had had a chemo treatment so I was feeling somewhat tired. What a shock this new Mayfair presented. It is a very nice location but they have gone totally upscale. You can't just walk in, you do need an appointment. We did not know this and were buzzed into the establishment. There were quite a few people there. That's when we found out that you needed an appointment. It is not like a regular Jewelry store anymore where you have display cases with various pieces of jewelry. In this place they have sofas and chairs to sit on and two areas that I could see where they had tables and chairs. Since everyone was busy we went to sit down at one of the tables and before we even reached for a chair, the owners son who was in an office opposite us spoke out and told us we could not sit there, with no explanation. We thought he was kidding and we asked why? Well, we got no answer and were so taken aback that we left the store. We had gone there with great expectations and were so disappointed in the way we were treated. I told my daughter to go to Solomon's Jewelers in Plainview and there we were able to order the two nameplates I wanted to get. I would never return to Mayfair. There is no reason to treat people like second class citizens.
