Marketing & Retail Operations is a division of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, which is an educational institution of the Commonwealth of Virginia and administers various museums. The foundation works to educate and promote the understanding and awareness of Virginia s role in the creation of the United States. It is accredited by the American Association of Museums. The Foundation employs more than 350 full-and part-time staff members. It operates the Jamestown Settlement museum, which interprets the cultures of 17th-century Powhatan Indians. The foundation s museums also showcase documents, toys, ceremonial and decorative objects, and tools and weapons. Its Yorktown Victory Center features nearly 1,100 artifacts, including military equipment, paintings, engravings, nautical objects, medical tools and household objects belonging to the 18th century. Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation s programs have served approximately 389,000 students through hand-on sessions and guided tours. Its outreach education programs are endorsed by the National Council for the Social Studies. The foundation s affiliate, Jamestown-Yorktown Founda tion Incorporated, coordinates private fund development in support of its programs.
