General Info
History of Our Company: Lee Local Moving Company is locally owned and operated by the Lee family of Williamsburg, Virginia. We began our services in 1941 as a weekend operation to make extra money. We now extend our years of professional experience, talents, and services to our customers. What began several decades ago, in 1941, for Thomas E. Lee, as a weekend operation to make some extra money to support his family, now is a corporate business; Lee Local Moving Company, Inc.. Mr. Lee began his moving service just to pick up extra money, on nights and weekends. He was employed by the College of William and Mary for about 40 years. His job duties included working in the building and grounds department, being in charge of college moving requirement, a bus driver and a janitor. Tom Lee's first moving jobs came from those who knew him best, college employees, professors, administrators and staff personnel. Because of his work ethic, it was not long before they started telling friends. He would take on small jobs with a small crew. Gradually he took on larger jobs. In the 1950s and 60s, Mr. Lee would move almost anything for $50. Payroll was $1 per hour per man. Tom Lee started with his son, Thomas (Buck) Lee, Jr. and one of his stepsons, J. Lee White, later Ed White and J. Lee White incorporated the business with his wife, Vivian Lee. Today Williamsburg first mover has become a household name in the moving industry.
