On Jul 22, 2014 (still sober today) Matt, I wish there were greater words than simply thank you for all you had done for Kevin while he was under your care!!!!!!!!!!!! When my husband first told me Kevin would be leaving inpatient and going to a half way house I was full of anxiety and worry.....I felt he wasn't ready....the truth was...I wasn't ready!!!! I wanted to keep him in a plastic bubble where he would be safe from all the evil that brought him to a life of alcohol and drugs. My husband told me that he has spoken to "Matt"!!!!!!.....that under Matt's care Kevin would be responsible to work at any full time job that was offered to him; that Kevin would have to live by the rules of the house.....grocery shop; clean; and go to bible study along with his normal NA meetings. I was skeptical to say the least....I couldn't get him to do one thing under our roof......how was Matt ever going to make these things happen?? They seemed impossibilities seeing the condition Kevin was in when we put him on the plane to rehab just a short time before. After working for a short period at Mc Donalds Kevin secured a full time job where he is still employed. He is a self sufficient member of his community. He acquired a car loan on his own and makes those payments along with his rent and car insurance on his own.......He has been committed to the gym.......committed to his meetings....his relationships ....and his responsibilities!!!!!!! He laughs......is spiritual....is mentally and physically fit. There is nothing more that a parent wishes for their child. Kevin celebrates 16 months sober....I attribute his to several factors.....First and foremost his genuine will to live. Secondly, that he detoxed and was not put on methadone or suboxone....and lastly the skills, responsibility, and spiritualism which he acquired at recovery Way. I sent a broken child with an active alcohol and heroine habit......and 16 months later we see a man who embraces life......understands his addiction and fights the battle every day. I asked Kevin if he still thinks about the drugs. His answer....." U can't help what you think.....BUT U can control what U do with the thoughts." I think that says it all. Thank you Matt Cooper for giving our son a second chance not to merely exist substance free....but to have a life full of dreams and choices and laughter and love. Sober Living Homes Ok guy's here’s the deal, we want you to have cell phones, laptops, and cars if you got them (cars after 30 days with rent paid). The whole idea is to learn how to live without using and find out that it's better than before! We are a fully functional sober living program and are here to assist you in your recovery. We are going to ensure that you have a home group, sponsor and get involved in service along with going to at least 1 NA or AA meeting a day if not 2 when not working. We want you to build a foundation in recovery that is unshakeable and second to non. We have many alumni who will help guide you also. No one goes hungry as there is always food in the house and we will help you with groceries while you're getting it together with work etc. Here at Recovery Way Sober Living everything from cleaning supplies to linens is provided for you. All you need is your own razor and if you can't afford that at first we'll get that too. We supply food stamps and SS cards, bus passes if you don't have a car all at NO cost to you as long as you meet the State standard and are ready to follow directions. This is like being on vacation as finally you do not have to worry about what, where and when as you only need to be guided.
