Bridgewater Motor Works should ALWAYS be less than the new car dealer. If awarded the job, we would have been. Lloyd is a gentleman and would never have purposely hung up on Mr. Stretch. This is a quote from the email sent from Lloyd to Mr. Stretch on the morning of March 11, 2015: “I’m sorry that we got disconnected. The last thing I heard from you was that we were higher than VW and asked if you would please hold. I was going to talk to the owner about the pricing issue. When I went to talk with you, I though you hung up with me because our price was higher. Please accept my apology for this confusion…. We do not do business by hanging up on our valued customers.” Lloyd was told to find out what the pricing problem was. Our parts department determined that there was confusion on our part with the flapper motor. When looked up on ETKA, the VW factory parts system, the part was determined to be 1K0253691B with a price of $410. On the same screen, the part was shown to supersede to 1K0253691C with a price of $500. This is the price our estimate was based from. What was missed was that the parts information was continued onto a new screen where the newest part number was shown to be 1K0253691G with a price of $246. If we were doing the job we would have realized our mistake when the part was ordered from the dealer. We would have looked like heroes when the repair came in at over $250 under the estimate. We are usually under the estimate. Unfortunately, we made a mistake. Although we do our best to be accurate with estimates, we do make mistakes.

I have had my cars serviced at...

I have had my cars serviced at Bridgewater Motor Works for over 20 years. They kept my 1996 Mercedes going until I traded it for a 2004 BMW X3. If it were not for them I would not have dared to own these cars. The dealers scare me and I question the knowledge of other local shops. The Check Engine light came on a while ago for a front oxygen sensor. They showed me the description of the code and the recommended repair in the factory scan tool. Rather than blindly following the tool they checked for service bulletins pertaining to my problem. There was a software update that applied to this situation. They have the factory tools and equipment, so they updated the software in my engine computer. No parts were replaced and the Check Engine light has not returned. I recommend Bridgewater Motor works to all my friends.

They really know their stuff. ...

They really know their stuff. I have been bringing my Volvo XC90 to them since I bought it several years ago. Their prices are fair and have never gone over an estimate for repairs. They are cheaper than the dealer but still have all the factory equipment. I believe they are one of the few shops around that subscribes to VIDA (the factory information system). They were able to fix one of my problems with a simple software update. I am not too thrilled that Volvo charges for their software, but that is not the fault of Bridgewater Motor Works. Bring your Volvo or other luxury European car to them for excellent work.

I had been taking my car to the dealer. I switched to them when I realized they used factory parts and had the factory test equipment as well as access to the factory technical web site. Their technicians were knowledgeable and their prices were better than at the dealer.

I will Never Go Here Again

Very expensive. I took my 2002 Audi in for an overheating problem. They charged me $463.00 for a diagnosis. After that I had my doubts about them. Two mechanics i know personally stated after reading their itemized bill, that I was charged approximately twice as much as i should have. I then brought it to another mechanic shop 4 towns over. I have no previous acquaintance with these people or this shop. I gave them the same list of problems. They gave me the same diagnosis for $201.10. I never told this shop what the other shop charged. I will see them next in court. First small claims, if and when I win I will pursue fraud and criminal charges with the states attorneys office and my lawyer. Be very careful with this. I tried to let Mike Holmes the chance to redeem themselves. I stated everything in this review and he told me he thought nothing was wrong with the bill.

The $463 bill included a synthetic oil change and the replacement of a coolant temperature sensor. As stated, the complaint was overheating. Eric decided to have us check out the problem instead of just replacing the thermostat that he assumed was defective. Replacing the thermostat in his vehicle is almost a three hour job that we didn’t want to do if it was not the problem. Our initial diagnosis was that it was not overheating. The overheating complaint was based on the readings of the temperature gauge. Mike called for authorization to pin down the problem, which was given. The temperature gauge is part of the instrument cluster and is not replaceable separately. The cluster price was $890 plus installation. Once purchased from the dealer it could not be used in another vehicle after being installed in this vehicle because the theft security module is built into the cluster. Bridgewater Motor Works has a VW/Audi dealer number and is one of the very few shops in the area that can perform theft related repairs. It took time to be sure of what was going on. Eric was charged for most of that time. We needed to be absolutely sure. Unfortunately the trust needed in the relationship between Eric and Bridgewater Motor Works was never developed.
