This place is a sad excuse for a restaurant. The owner, Jen cares only about her next high. The waitresses are doped up and drink illegally in the basement. This place needs to be shut down and sold to someone who actually cares about their business. Over priced for rotten food. I would not recommend.

From the time you come through the front door you are going to know you ae in a unique place. Jennifer and her parents have redone the old winery and created a restaurant that is super. We first ate there not long after J'Fires' opened -- we had gumbo and veggie fries. BOTH are to "kill for." Since then we have broadened our meals to the po boy sandwiches and Jennifer's incedible pizza as well as other choices. Great atmosphere - great food - great, friendly service. We eat there at least twice a month and we take our friends often as well. This place is becoming one of two true high class restaurants in Waterloo (the other's Gallaghers). Thanks goodness they have a decent sized parking lot!

Very delicious flavors. I enjoyed the pizza (home-made and baked in a special oven!!) and I recommend the daily specials, they reflect the personality of the chef. I liked the flavor and flair, the "country-boys" in the group thought the portions small and didn't care for it. However, my enthusiasm and enjoyment overrides them. I thought the portions were satisfying. I appreciated the flavor combinations and unique flair. The old winery looks great and I look forward to a return visit during warmer weather to enjoy the patio dining. Prices at our table were between $10-25 per person. Don't miss the desserts, yum!.

We called at 5 pm to make a 5:30 reservation on June 20th. When we called at 5, we were told that there were several microbrew/specialty beers available on-tap. When we arrived at 530, we were told that the tappers were still not working. We ordered the Pommes Frittes appetizer. They were full of cooking oil and soggy. We decided to cut our losses and just leave.

Of course you gotta try it! How many restaurants do we have in Waterloo? Yes, it was good. It was nice to eat, with appetizer for 2 under $40. Appreciate Gallaghers, but the cost some times is disappointing.Warning, portions may appear smaller than they are. I say this because I appreciate good health. My better half & I were in Wash DC a few months ago at a very fine restaurant, when our entrees came I didn?t even look up-I didn?t want to see the look on his face after he saw how little he was going to eat-I simple stated "look around, do you see anyone overweight". He smiled & said "oh, got it."Only real down side for me..how disappointed I get at the service in Waterloo. Friendly, but lack class. I so wish we had local schooling for these waitresses. Yes, she attempted to take his order first instead of the lady at the table. And yes, she brought the change back incorrectly...$36+ bill, we gave her 3 $20?s. Yes, she brought us 2 $10?s & 3 $1?s. We dug out another $3.

I am from a small town so I can appreciate the upscale dinning meshing with bringing the local farms to the table in style. I have been there twice and the menu is changed a bit. I have been happy with everything I tried. This European Style Bistro has been kept as true to its history as possible in dcor. My girlfriends and I loved it!
