- Macular DegenerationYour retina, which is comprised of nerves for your eye, acts as a central point for your vision, as it senses light and transfers impulses to your brain. One of the most common retina conditions is age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which causes vision loss among people 50 and older as a result of damage to the center retina, or macula. AMD severity can vary among stages based on the size and number of yellow retina deposits known as drusen, with the latest such stage being late AMD.
- Laser Eye SurgeryThe latest advancement in LASIK treatment is iLASIK™, a customized all-laser procedure that combines two of the most up-to-date technologies available for maximum results and safety. And iLASIK is only available in the Cedar Falls-Waterloo area at Cedar Valley Eye Care!
- CataractsA cataract is a clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens. The lens focuses light rays on the retina (the layer of light-sensing cells lining the back of the eye) to produce a sharp image of what is being viewed. When the lens becomes cloudy, light rays cannot pass through it easily and vision is blurred.
- Cataract SurgeryDrs. Daniel Miller, Michael Puk and Thomas Petrie are pleased to announce that TECNIS Symfony® Intraocular Lenses (IOL) are now available at Cedar Valley Eye Care! Implanted during cataract surgery, TECNIS Symfony® IOLs are designed to provide crisp, consistent vision across multiple distances and lighting environments, thereby reducing color blending and clouding or blurriness across some or all vision areas. If you experience regular sight impairment, it’s time to explore whether the Symfony® lenses can help.

- Multiple SclerosisThe best candidates for BOTOX treatments are people who are physically healthy, with no history of neuromuscular diseases (such as multiple sclerosis or myasthenia gravis), who are not pregnant or nursing, and who are at least 18 years old. Those who should not have BOTOX treatments include those with...
- Diabetic RetinopathyDiabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of diabetic eye disease, which can cause changes in the blood vessels of the retina that is a leading cause of blindness in American adults. Retina blood vessels may also swell and leak fluid, or grow on the surface of the retina, in some people with diabetic retinopathy.
- UltrasoundA vitreous hemorrhage, or bleeding within the vitreous gel inside the eye, may occur due to several reasons. Often, a vitreous hemorrhage will leave a patient with significantly decreased vision and is dangerous because your retina specialist is often unable to properly assess the retina for the bleeding’s cause. In cases of significant vitreous hemorrhage obscuring the retina’s view, a retina specialist will perform an ophthalmic ultrasound examination to determine whether the retina is attached. If a vitreous hemorrhage is caused by a retinal tear, your specialist might be unable to diagnose and treat the retinal tear in order to prevent a potentially blinding retinal detachment. Generally, some hemorrhages may be carefully followed in clinic but some require vitrectomy surgery to remove.
- BotoxThe first signs of aging often appear as wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, cheeks and lips. While wrinkles are normal defining feature of the human face, they can sometimes falsely portray a tired or more aged appearance. Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX®) injections are used to treat facial wrinkles, restoring a more youthful, rested appearance.
- Eyelid SurgeryImpair your vision and affect your appearance. Additionally, eyelid plastic surgery can help patients address functional- or image-based concerns. To find out more about our eyelid surgery service offerings, please click here.
- Plastic SurgeryThe quality of your vision can be affected by numerous factors, including the health of your eyelids. The wellness of your eyelids can be affected by excessive eyelid skin, droopy eyelids or eyelids that turn inward or outward. These problems can limit your vision, cause your eyes discomfort, and affect your appearance. Fortunately, these conditions are often easily treatable with surgery. Additionally, some clients may desire to alter aspects of their eyelids’ appearance with eyelid plastic surgery, an elective procedure typically performed on an outpatient basis.
- BlepharoplastyThe excess skin can be removed surgically by a procedure called blepharoplasty, which in turn will generally address these vision and appearance issues in the upper and lower eyelids. If excess fatty tissue is present, it may also be removed at the same time.
