      General Info
      Established in 1902, the Bureau of Reclamation is best known for the dams, power plants and canals it constructed in approximately 20 western states. These water projects led to homesteading and promoted the economic development of the West. Bureau of Reclamation has constructed more than 600 dams and reservoirs including Hoover Dam on the Colorado River and Grand Coulee on the Columbia River. It is one of the largest wholesalers of water in the country. The company brings water to more than 30 million people. Bureau of Reclamation is also one of the largest producers of hydroelectric power in the western United States. Its nearly 60 power plants annually provides more than 40 billion kilowatt hours generating nearly a billion dollars in power revenues. It also produces enough electricity to serve more than 5 million homes. Bureau of Reclamation is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
