      Dr. Talamo has practiced ophthalmic surgery in greater Boston for over 20 years since the completion of his medical training at Johns Hopkins and Harvard. He is the Managing Partner of Talamo Hatch Laser Eye Consultants and Medical Director of Surgisite Boston, an ambulatory eye surgery center in Waltham, MA with over 60 ophthalmologists on staff. He is a longtime member of the medical staff at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. An early adopter of many new and improved surgical technologies, Dr. Talamo was an investigator for many of the early clinical trials that led to FDA approval of laser vision correction technology, and helped found and became the medical director of The Laser Eye Center of Boston, one of the first private refractive surgery centers in New England. Dr. Talamo was the first surgeon in New England to perform all-laser LASIK surgery using the Intralase femtosecond laser, LASIK surgery for farsightedness (hyperopia), and INTACS corneal ring correction for myopia (nearsightedness) and keratoconus (warping of the cornea). He has expertise with other important technologies for vision correction, including the Visian implantable contact lens (ICL) as well as the Crystalens, Tecnis and ReStor intraocular lenses to correct for presbyopia and toric intraocular lenses to correct astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery. Since 2008, Dr. Talamo has been intimately involved in research, development, and clinical trials leading to FDA approval of the OptiMedica CatalysTM laser for cataract surgery, and in December, 2012 became the first surgeon in Massachusetts to perform laser-assisted cataract surgery.
