- Pediatric CareThe Dental Department is actively involved with other organizations to improve health outcomes and service delivery in the community. For example, the offices are accredited by the American Dental Association Advanced Education General Dentistry (AEGD) and as a Pediatric Dental residency site of NYU Lutheran Medical Center. Each year, approximately five dentists are accepted to the Waianae site to exchange ideas and gain an appreciation for the concept of "E Ola kino Maika'i, Ku Kakou" to stand together for good health and quality of life. These types of partnerships, particularly in the area of pediatrics, have opened up access to care for children who were previously required to travel outside of the Leeward Coast for care.
- Primary CareThe WCCHC Na Lei Kukui Nurse Practitioner Residency Program is a post-graduate residency program that began in 2015 to help new family and adult nurse practitioners expand their competency to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered primary care services. The program offers residents a 12-month, full-time salaried position working directly with specialists and primary care providers to increase their confidence and knowledge in caring for patients – especially those with multiple chronic conditions. In addition to hands-on experience in the clinics, the residents also attend lectures on a variety of subjects that build on their current knowledge of disease processes, treatment options and medications. This innovative program is just one of the ways WCCHC is successfully addressing provider shortages by “growing their own healers.”
