- Dental CareRoutine dental care is a necessity for the health of our pets. Just like humans, poor oral hygiene can affect the overall health of our pets, too. Dental disease is a common problem our pets face. The most common problem is plaque or dental tartar. Dental calculus (tartar) is composed of various mineral salts, organic material and food particles. In the early stages of accumulation, the material is soft (plaque), but it later hardens and adheres to the teeth. Continual accumulation causes inflammation of the gums and eventual recession of the gums and loose teeth. The breath becomes very odorous and the mouth becomes a dangerous source of infection.

- Nutritional CounselingEven when your pet seems healthy, a wellness examination is a good opportunity to note any changes such as weight loss or gain, new habits, or other changes that you may have noticed. Having a conversation with your pet’s doctor may help detect early signs of illness and address health issues before they progress.
- Comprehensive ExaminationYour pet can benefit from regular checkups. Whether your pet is young, a senior or any age in between, a wellness exam provides an opportunity to conduct a thorough physical examination of your pet. It allows us to establish a relationship with you and your pet and to gather information on your pet’s behavior, appetite, exercise, and regular activities at home. It also gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have about your pet and his care. A wellness exam looks at all day to day aspects and can identify medical problems and any other issues that affect your pet’s quality of life.

- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentIs your pet overweight? Keeping our pets healthy directly involves weight management. Many medical conditions can arise or be aggravated by extra pounds. A common example is arthritis as carrying extra pounds throughout life puts more strain on joints leading to joint pain at a younger age. This is a sensitive issue because some pets love to eat as much as we do! We often share our food with them not realizing how quickly those calories add up. So now what? Our pets don’t know what a diet is and are used to their share of our meals as well. Our veterinarians can assess their weight, address any medical issues they may already have and help you implement a healthy diet to sustain them longer so they feel fulfilled.

- Dental SurgeryAt your pets yearly wellness exam we will assess their teeth. Whether they need at home maintenance or are in need of a cleaning, we will make a plan on how to achieve and maintain good oral health for your pet. Dental cleanings are very common outpatient procedures, here’s a little more on what we do. All patients undergoing a dental cleaning will be placed under general anesthetic to ensure we are able to provide the best possible cleaning and care to their teeth. Our animal hospital is equipped with oral radiography which provides our doctors the tools required for a complete dental procedure should an oral extraction be necessary. Our trained staff is able to scale, polish, and perform oral surgery. The scaling will remove calculus at and below the gum line, while polishing will smooth the tooth surface to reduce plaque and tartar buildup.

- MicrochippingEvery year, thousands and thousands of pets go missing. Not knowing where your pet is or how to bring them back can be a helpless, hopeless feeling. It’s a tragedy that happens all too often. But there is a simple, safe, and effective way to ensure your pet’s safety and retrieval should they ever become lost. Microchipping is a standard procedure that implants a tiny chip underneath your pet’s fur. It is a painless and relatively fast procedure, and is completely safe. This microchip is registered with your pet’s vital information, and can be scanned by any veterinarian or animal shelter so that they can return your pet directly to you.
