Not worth the trip

Yesterday was my second time to Coyote Sam's. The first time (several months agao) we sat for 1/2 hour before finally asking for a waiter. Other parties seated later had received drinks and salads. We received our water 5 minutes later and never saw a waiter again. After 45 minutes we left.

Yesterday we went for Brunch. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. They were service with NO hollandaise sauce. I asked for the sauce and received a little over a tablespoon. When I received the bill there was a charge for $.50 for the sauce. The waitress said that is just how it is. I asked to see the manager. Never saw him, but 10 minutes later received a different bill with the sauce removed, but no explanation.

Nice atmosphere, but considering the prices and the service I would recommend almost any other restaurant in Tyler.

While traveling through this the best place to eat. You will like everything about this place. We look forward to stopping in again to try more of the menu. Plenty of selections.

I have been to Coyote Sams twice this month and been very pleased with their service, food and atmosphere. The fireplace was on and the waitress was very friendly. It was Taco Tuesday and they were marvelous. They were made in spirals with turkey, very tasty. Today I had the King Ranch Chicken....absolutely wonderful. The salad was very fresh with all green lettuce and the dressing was thick and not watered down. I'm hooked on this restaurant and I don't eat out very often so this is very impressive.

We were driving back home to Louisiana from a Dallas trip & stumbled upon this gem of a place early Saturday afternoon. We were looking for a place with a patio to eat because it was such a pretty day, my phone search turned up Coyote Sams...intrigued by the name, we exited 1-20 to check it out. So glad we did. Gorgeous place, inside & out! We walked in & immediately were greeted by Cullen, who turned out to be our waiter also. He was so friendly & welcoming. When we saw the patio it was like walking into heaven, but when he told us happy hour was ongoing with $3 mimosas & bloody marys I KNEW it was! It was an amazing lunch from start to finish. We were already planning a trip back before we walked out.
Highly recommend!!!

The food here is really good. Great burgers, wild game, Mexican as well as some of the best BBQ you will eat. If you had a poor experience in the past you will not be disappointed to see how they have improved since opening in 2008/2009.

We came here for our anniversary and we LOVED it. Quiet but amazing food and drinks. I would love to get a chance to be back in Tyler to enjoy another meal. The front desk staff at our hotel enjoyed our leftovers the next morning because we had a really long drive back home.

Very Pleased

I had lunch on Saturday with my daughter and teenaged son. I had read the reviews and was prepared to be disappointed What a pleasant surprise. Not only was the food outstanding but the service and atmosphere was top notch! I will be returning and recommending to my friends.

Excellent Restaurant!!! - by Tina in Tyler

Great atmosphere & great food! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good all around quality. Texas Monthly wrote a great article about this restaurant, after eating there themselves several times. I will copy and paste their review from their magazine below. I personally like restaurants that are family owned and not a chain. This is a place you can go and the owners are actually there. If you eat there be sure to take a tour of every room including the nice patio with the firepit and waterfall and the bar which is very interesting with all of the history on the walls. No other place like it in Tyler. I've been going to this restaurant since they opened last Summer and everything on the menu is excellent!

Texas Monthly review from January 2009: This new bar and grill in Tyler is a welcome departure from the national chains popping up on every corner. A wonderful study in contradictions, Coyote Sam’s atmosphere is hunting-lodge-meets-creek-side-cafe, its menu eclectic-barbecue-joint-meets-California-trattoria. On back-to-back visits (we really like this place), we relished a smoky prime rib sandwich, a generous portion of barbecued beef tucked into grilled sourdough bread, and a walnut-crusted salmon in a lemony butter sauce. We did not regret indulging in the Texas Cannonball, a softball-size scoop of cinnamon ice cream rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs. Bar.

Enough said. This should tell you more than enough to know you need to try it!!!

Definitely improving

The first time I tried Coyote Sam's was when it had been opened for just a couple months. We were seated, greeted by a server who said they would get us our waters until our real server came. That was fine, except we never saw our real server. By the time the ice melted in our glasses, we walked out. The hostess didn't even notice that we weren't there long enough to possibly have eaten when she told us to have a good night. It seems like they just had a rough start when they first opened with bad servers.

I've gone a few more times since then and mostly everything has been wonderful! The food is DELICIOUS, the servers were polite and attentive. I may be biased from working as a hostess & server in another restaurant for a few years, but it seems like the hostesses (who are the first impression of a restaurant) should be a little more welcoming.

The indoor dining rooms are very nice, interesting, and neat looking while the outside dining is beautiful and pretty peaceful!

I think a lot of restaurants have trouble with employees when first opening, but it appears to be improving. I'd say give it a chance. The food (especially the brisket & baked beans) is definitely worth it!

We were curious about this restaurant...sounded like a pretty casual place, but it is actually pretty upscale--kind of lodge-like in its decor. However, the waitress we had was not up to par -- absent a lot of the time and seemed to be having a hard time keeping up with the few tables she had. The baked potatoes ought to be a no-brainer, but they were overcooked--not fluffy inside. The steak we had for $29 was supposed to be marbled, but it actually had quite a bit of fatty places on it that just could not be eaten and we ordered it medium rare, but it was cooked more on the side of rare. Bread sticks were rubbery (don't expect Olive Garden style) and the "butter" it came with was more like a cream cheese with tomato flavor??? We like different, but they should stick to plain butter or garlic. Try the mango vinaigrette dressing--it was great. I guess the food could be overlooked, but when you have bad service, everything is overshadowed. Too bad...don't know if we will return.

Great service, tasty food, beautiful surroundings. The owner is genuinely interested in your opinions on the quality of the food and shows attention to detail. He visited our table once and spoke to us as we were leaving to inquire about the selections we made. Seems ready to do whatever it takes to make this place a success. A welcome addition to Sunday brunch selection of restaurants also!

HORRIBLE SERVICE. Beautiful resturant, but don't go if you are hungry or thirsty. I went on a slow Saturday afternoon (less than 15 cars in the parkinglot) and left after 15 minutes. Since no one had even bothered to ask my drink order. I will never go back there. I have had better service at a fast food resturant.
