TWIN FALLS • After years of bouncing from job to job, Miguel Orozco finally decided to go into business for himself. Orozco opened Used Tire King in Twin Falls in October. It co-operates out of Skinner Trucking at 528 Washington St. Orozco is the only employee, and his shop sells new tires but specializes in used ones. He was motivated to start the business after being laid off from Chobani in 2014. “I made my mind up,” he said. “I was going to do tires, I like that kind of job.” He started a small car repair shop in Jerome and later sold it to a business partner to pursue opening his business in Twin Falls. He co-owns Used Tire King with his wife, Grace. Originally from Mexico, Orozco, 28, grew up in Rupert and Burley. He has worked factory jobs, agriculture jobs and even at several local tire shops before deciding tires were his passion. Instead of getting a small business loan, he saved and started Used Tire King with 200 used tires. And because inventory goes fast, he is constantly on the look out for good, used tires to buy. “It’s hard to get good used tires,” he said. He said he also chose to specialize in the used tire business because of the need. While working at other tire shops, he said he often heard stories from customers who couldn’t afford to buy brand new tires. “I like helping people out,” he said. “It’s hard out there, I’ve been in my spots where I was living from paycheck to paycheck.” Tires start at $30 and go up in price. Other services include flat repairs, tire balancing/rotation, oil changes, brake services and commercial/truck tire inventory. Because the tires he sells used do not come without a warranty, he gives customers a week or two to drive on them. If they get a flat or are damaged, he will repair or replace them. “That’s why I take care of my customers,” he said. “Bad word of mouth travels faster than good word of mouth.”
