First-classBetter than mostAbout what I expectedNot the worst...Disappointing

Im a teacher myself but had I known then what I know now about Real Kids Preschool I wouldnt have felt safe leaving my son there! Safety is my #1 concern but safety isnt the #1 concern of Real Kids Preschool! My two-year-old attended here for several months in the fall of 2016. The staffs lack of safety and security awareness and their opposition to addressing safety issues we identified resulted in us making the hard choice to withdrawal him so we werent worried about his safety while we were at work. I never write reviews but I do read reviews before making an important decision like choosing a school for my son. Im sharing this because Im extremely worried that perhaps your child could walk out of Real Kids Preschool and get hit by a car on busy Houghton road, be hit by a car in the school parking lot or the open door I describe below could let in a child abductor or a school shooter. Again Im a teacher and the safety of other peoples children in my primary concern. Schools used to feel safe but now we have learned how necessary it is to have school security in mind especially since my childs school was a preschool with little ones that can so quickly and quietly slip through an open exterior door! Here is what happened. The main problem was observed when I came to pick him up one afternoon. When I arrived, there were two staff members present in the room; the teacher was greeting parents at the interior door and the assistant was vacuuming. Neither person was watching the children adequately. The exterior door to the classroom was propped fully open with a chair. Just 5 feet through the open exterior door is the parking lot which leads to busy Houghton road and the other end of the parking lot leads into the open desert. I brought to the primary teacher that I was concerned that my son could easily slip out the exterior door. She was dismissive of my concerns and told me that he hadnt tried yet. With a little 2 year old boy the fact that it hadnt happened yet doesnt make me feel that it wont happen. He just hadnt done it yet. I dont trust an open door at my own house when I am with my kids and know darn well how fast kids can get away when you are distracted for just a moment. When I told her that I didnt feel comfortable leaving him in their care with an open exterior door in his classroom the teacher said it would be awhile until they opened it again because it was starting to get cold. She also told me she would pray for my peace of mind I dont need you to pray for me, I need you to close the door so I dont have to be worrying that my son is loose on the road or in the desert next to the school!Additionally, she said that they didnt want to lose us but there is a waiting list to get in, arrogantly suggesting that they could easily replace my sons spot so they werent interested in improving and retaining us as a client. I was also told the director would call me to discuss my concerns but I never received any communication. Leaving an exterior door open to a preschool not only is a safety risk for escapee kids but a security risk as well since anyone can simply walk into the classroom unchecked. Compare this to almost every school or daycare today where the campus is much more secure. How can any school today think this is acceptable? If you google you can find current stories of 2 and 3 year old children who escaped through open doors at their school and were found walking home alone! A sickening thought for any parent. Before withdrawing my son, my husband and I discussed what I observed. He works in risk management for a Fortune 500 company. Without hesitation, my husband said to withdraw immediately because the risk of him being hurt or killed if he escaped outweighed the things we liked about the school. He said the severity of the uncontrolled risk and lack of corrective action was not acceptable. An additional, albeit less serious, concern is that they have the

This preschool is fantastic! Our 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter have attended since July 2008 (we were referred there by a family member who loved it). Both of our kids love their teachers, have fun with their classmates, and enjoy the educational but fun curriculium that Real Kids Pre-School offers. My husband and I appreciate the Christian based approach to learning and we love the way the staff treats us like family. The classrooms are beautifully decorated and are warm and inviting. We get progress reports on how the kids are doing. My 5 year old son is quite prepared to enter Kindergarten in the fall, thanks to Real Kids Preschool! I can't say enough good things about this preschool and I recommend it to friends whenever I can! It would be worth your time to schedule a time to take a tour. Feel free to tell them that Kathryn DeNinno sent you and I'd be willing to speak with you in person too. Just ask the director, Angie, to pass a message on to me.
