Went to the one on Ina Rd. The service was good consideringf they were very busy. Never had to wait longer than a few minutes for drink refills. Food was very good.
I just got back from what I had hoped would be a nice diner... And I was Wrong!
La Parilla Suiza ~ on 35th ave and peoria
I had heard good things about this place and eaten there before but tonight really Angered me off.
I ordered a chicken chimmichunga because they dont make my usual good at all. anyway, it looked descent, with a side dish of beans and a 1/2 scoop of plain-looking rice. So I ate some rice and started to eat the chimmi and I got about 2 bites in before there was a chicken bone abouth 3 inches long in it.
So naturally it ruined my appitite thinking of how it could break a tooth.
Heres the good part...
I call over the waiter and let him know and the guy offers my another plate or desert and I told him give us desert to go. (knowing I am going to get chicken elsewhere.)
He then shows up with the check with everything on it and Chris tells thge man that we are not going to pay for something that was sent back. The guy tells him we have to pay for it because we got the desert (desert $4 and plate $10) obviously we made him take it off and paid for the desert against better judgement.
To end this story:
I saw the owner at the bar and decide to let her know what happened and that I was disappointed. Thinking she cares about keeping her customers I thought it was a good idea. Let me tell you what this women tells me, ""I told your server to explain to you that we serve real chicken, so you should expect that to happen to you. And I told the kitchen to be more careful."" (as if there will be one.)
I can not believe that is the attitude of a business owner. I dont usually even complain if the food tastes bad but seriously a chicken bone?!?! and I should expect that, in a $10 plate of food that tastes like $3 of.
We went to La Parilla Suiza about a year ago and had a wonderful meal and enjoyed live entertainment provided by a mariachi group. We have returned several times hoping to see them again but despite a large banner out front that says the mariachi perform Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30, they are never there. That is deceptive advertising.
I love La Parrilla they have great mexican food. Their queso is to die for. I normally always get their #17 which is so good. Their salsa is great also. One thing that you do not come here for is the service. The waitors barely come around and you have to wait forever to get your one free refill which is think all places should have unlimited refills. But if you love mexican food and can oversee the service then this is the place to go.
This place is the greatest. The appetizer of grilled green onions (#8) with one of the queso appetizers is like heaven wrapped in a tortilla. Seriously. There's something tangy about those onions that I have never been able to recreate at home. The 3 different kinds of salsa are perfect . Sometimes I'll get an order of chorizo and add that to the onions, and cheese and salsa combo. Wow. And this is just the appetizer!
Hopefully, I've whet your appetite enough to try it.
Plus, there are pictures of every plate at the register up front, and on their website.
And please, for the love of god, don't order a taco salad...that would be such a waste!
Absolutely delicious! Three locations in Tucson, all offering a great experience. They start you out with 3 wonderful salsas: a chunky pico de gallo style, a green smooth and creamy avocado based salsa, and a simple thin tomato based. The cheese that tops just about everything is fabulous. It's a blend of three white cheeses and cannot be beat! The queso (different size plates with a pool of this melted deliciousness served with tortillas) is perhaps the guiltiest pleasure on the menu, but WELL worth the guilt. My all time favorite is the Chicken Enchiladas with Green Sauce (#36). This green sauce (like everything else) is made fresh daily and is unrivaled. I've tried others, but La Parilla's will always be my favorite. The rice is not a traditional Mexican rice, but is yellow and still quite tasty and the refried beans are some of the best I've had. If you go to one Mexican restaurant while in Tucson, it should be La Parilla.
My Family and I went for lunch. 6 adults and 3 children. We waited to be seated and it took about 15 minutes. The lady ahead of us had called in an order and when she arrived to pick it up, the order was all screwed up. It took them about 10 min to understand what she want and how she wanted it. Then the food she ordered was going to take another 20 minutes or so to prepare. Finally we were seated and we were told that they had no shredded beef and no shredded chicken. after eating we received the check and they had added their own gratuity percentage. Half of the family ended up sharing the same meals. I will not go there again. AND NO we did not leave an additional tip.
If you love authentic mexican food, La Parilla Suiza is your place!!! Each time we visit Tucson we eat here at least one time, more if we can find the time! The margaritas are refreshing, the melted cheese served w/ tortillas is hearty and satisfying by itself, but then add the Tortilla Soup and you have a meal fit for a king/queen! The portions are huge, entrees are large enough to split if you enjoy the cheese, chips and salsa, and the soup! GREAT SERVICE ALL THE TIME! If you've never experienced true authentic Mexico City food give this place a try, you'll love it!!!
