We eat Mexican in restaurants all over the North America. I was brought to Crossroads by the review in Citysearch.
As I say in my travels: ""You win some, you lose some."" This place was a loss. The waiter told me his favorite dish was the shrimp in chile wrapped in bacon. ""Muy sabroso."" It arrived with a glop of hardened yellow cheese on it, the chile itself was overcooked and cold. When the waiter saw that I had the cheese on the side of my plate he said, ""It shouldn't be like that. I told the cook. He said, 'Just take it like that.'""
If you want to each excellent food, go to El Guero Canelo - authentic, hot, and abundant. If you really like fresh, tasty, hot, authentic food then avoid Crossroads as you would McDonalds!
I have lived in tucson for over 30 years .I remember coming to crossroads as a kid with my family my dad would pull up to the drive thru. And me and my cousins would run around the parking lot playing (not reccomended anymore) .Over the years crossroads has been a tucson staple. For anyone who knows restaruants come and go very quickly they offer no gimmicks just great food at a reasonable price. Mexican food is very common on fourth ave.But when a restaruant has around since the ninteen thirtys they must be doing something right .I eat out alot and when it comes to mexican food done right everytime crossroads is the place to go friendly service, consistant food, adds to crossroads charm. Everything from a business lunch to a romantic dinner crossroads .is the place to go.I highly reccomend this restaruant they really take pride in what they serve from certified angus beef carne asada to home made flan dessert made by the owner herself try it all you will not be dissapointed.
After having lived in Tucson for 32 years, my wife and I ""rediscovered"" Crossroads. (We hadn't been there in many years.) First, I judge Mexican restaurants on their salsa and chips. Also, if the carne seca (and chile relleno) is delicious, the restaurant is given a GREAT place to eat score of 10. Crossroads is a definite 10. This place is quaint and unassuming, but it you like authentic, tasty Mexican food. It really does get any better than Crossroads. Inexpensive, too! And - hey - when the mariachis paly, you'd swear you were in Mexico.
We were hoping to go to Mi Nidito based on the citysearch profile but it was closed so we went to Crossroads. It was so good! We had the chicken enchiladas, beef tacos, steak burros as entrees and all were super tasty. The guacamole was also delicous with whole chunks of avocado and not much else which is how we like it. The margaritas are also very good. The prices were great. $5 for a 2 entree combo dinner with rice and beans. $5 for large margs. The server was very friendly and on the ball. All in all a great experience and a welcome surprise.
