- Pediatric CareThank you for your interest in Baker Pediatrics. The staff at Baker Pediatrics is excited to have the opportunity to create a special relationship with you and your family. Our goal is to combine a traditional practice setting with cutting-edge technology. We look forward to working in partnership with families to promote healthier, stronger children. The use of modern technology such as email, electronic medical records, social media and this web site will make that goal more attainable while maintaining highly personalized care. The continuity of a single provider practice helps to foster a mutually satisfying doctor-patient relationship. We want you to have the best of both worlds.
- Emergency CareBe on the lookout for signs and symptoms of dehydration: the inside of the eyes and mouth will dry out, infants will not make tears, an infant's soft spot may appear sunken, and there will be little/no urine output in a 6-8 hour period. If you think your child is dehydrated, call your doctor OR go directly to the nearest emergency room. You do not need our permission to take your child to the ER if you are concerned. Often the treatment involves intravenous fluids which must be provided in a hospital setting anyway.
- Infectious DiseasesThe past year has seen an explosion in new immunizations against many common infectious diseases. Here is a quick guide to the changes you might see at your next well visit.
- ImmunizationsIf you are new to the practice, please note that personalized care is the focus of every patient encounter. Our staff answers the phone directly; there is no automated attendant. We believe our focus should be on our patients. At the same time we use cutting edge technology to improve office efficiency and give parents convenient access to commonly requested information such as vaccination records, appointment and referral requests, growth charts and much more.
- Cervical CancerThe new Human Papillomavirus Vaccine is going to change gynecologic care for women. Most cervical cancers and pre-cancerous lesions are caused by HPV. The new vaccine contains 4 strains of the virus which are implicated in at least 70% of cases of cervical cancer.
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Skin CancerThe sun is the main cause of skin cancer, the most common form of cancer in the USA. Although skin cancer doesn't usually occur in young children, each year a higher percentage of skin cancers are being reported in adolescents and young adults. It is no longer a disease of the "grandparent" generation. People get skin cancer because they have received too much of the sun's damaging rays. Your skin remembers each sunburn and suntan year after year. 75% of our lifetime sun exposure happens before we turn 18 years of age. This is primarily because children spend more time outdoors than most adults, especially in the summertime.
