I just love the staff at paws and claws. I have been going there for years. They always make me and my doggies feel welcome and at home. This is the first veterinary clinic that my pets actually enjoy going to visit. I would not go anywhere else!

Dr Pollock is AMAZING!!

We were adopted by a middle aged cat about 5 years ago. We have no history on him before he came to live with us.
We took him to paws & claws to get a check up and shots, then to have a bump removed off his side (it his skin) & dental work.
Then last winter he got REALLY sick with an URI. We couldn't get him to eat or drink, we were so worried! Dr Pollock was so wonderful! She is amazing with Roswell, and does a great job explaining what is going on, what she is trying to accomplish and what to look for at home.
She called multiple times to check on him.
He now has high BP and his kidneys are failing, so we have to give him sub-Q fluids. Dr Pollock calls and checks on him and us. And I never feel rushed - she spends as much time with us as WE need!
You can just tell how much she loves animals! She is amazing!! The techs and reception staff are great too - they always great Roswell, give him pets and hugs when he gets cling-y, and are great with the stressed out kitty's mom and dad!
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone! They are slightly more than some chain vets, but the care and ""service"" you get is unmatchable - the extra couple (literally) dollars is worth it!!

The staff at Paws & Claws are amazing. I really appreciated their help when our beloved dog Zeus passed away this year. Not only did they go out of their way to walk us through the process, they totally empathized with us in our time of grief. They are a stellar group of competent animal lovers.

They donate services to Mult. Co. Animal Shelter

We rescued Ricardo our Chi from the pound. P and C had vetted him extensively for free to make him adoptable.
They wrote very honest notes on his health and demeanor. I will always take him there to show my gratitude for the care they donated to him and other abandoned pets in the future.

The best

Dr. Ken DeRiemer is an outstanding vet who not only encouraged us not to put our cat Bob to sleep when his pelvis was crushed (but not broken) but said the $1000+ surgery might not be necessary if we tended to Bob for a number of weeks (carried him outside and lifted his tail to potty for example) while he convalesced and let time rehabilitate his back end. His tail had to be amputated but that just gave him more character...Oh, and his name was bob BEFORE the amputation...since then I've been careful when I name my pets)). This was 1996 and bob lived another 10 happy healthy years.

Response to Pug story

I haven't been to this clinic I was just checking reviews looking for a clinic to take my dogs to. I just wanted to respond to the guys comment about the pug. I think the veterinary clinic did the right thing in taking the dog away from you. It is because of this clinic that your poor dog has a chance at a happy life. They were right to not allow you to have your dog back because you already showed that you didn't really care about the dog in the first place. Shame on you for being a bad pet owner and for not teaching your children responsible pet ownership.

Great staff and wonderful doctors!!!

I am new to the area and decided to take my new kittens to Paws and Claws by a recommendation. I found that everyone here was very easy to talk to and felt that the doctors really cared for my animals. Not to mention that everyone was very considerate of my financial situation! I will definetly be recommending Paws and Claws to my other friends in the area. As for the post about the pug there is no easy way out, what are you going to do when your kid gets sick for three days? Take resposnsibility for the challenges you take on in life. You should be thankful that this clinic saved your animals life! If you can't afford medical treatment for your pets than you shouldn't own a pet. That post just confirmed to me that I will be taking my pets to Paws and Claws for the rest of their lives.

Excellent Staff...

Recently I entered Paws & Claws looking for information on switching to a different vet (I moved across town and wish to find a closer doctor). The employee's at the front desk answered my questions to the best of their ability, and when they could not, they enlisted the help of one of the tech's from the back! I actually felt like my issues mattered and they took the time to answer them fully, and I was not even a client then! I have since had all 5 of my pets seen there, and would recommend Paws & Claws to any person looking for a refreshing change/approach to your four-legged children!

I love these guys!

I am a client at Paws & Claws and have seen all the doctors there. They are all wonderful and caring. The staff is amazing and always seem to work with my schedule. I recently just had a really sick cat and they went above and beyond for him. Dr. DeRemer stayed late after hours, not something I've found at other clinics. He truly cares. The downside he just bought another clinic in North Portland and is spending alot of time there getting things going. But i will probably go to Peninsula to see him if I can't get in at Paws & Claws. I highly recommend this place. As for the pug review I think this person should be thankful their pet went to such a caring place. If they are going to have a pet then accept the responsibility or don't have pets.
I find this post pretty unbelieveable!!

Paws N Claws rocks, the bad review is retarded

I would just like to say that Paws and Claws is a wonderful clinic and the staff is so generous and knowledgable, Dr. DeRemer is an amazing doctor and who ever wrote the post about the pug ./...good for the clinic for taking the animal away from you!!!! What in the world makes you think you have the knowledge or decision to euthanize an animal? Where are your credentials? I would be thanking the clinic for saving your so called ""loved family members"" life!!!!!!! flat out you should not have pets.

My dog LOVED Dr. DeRemer

My dog loved Dr. DeRemer, (even after he poured 2 bottles of charcoal down him when he ate my prescription strength Ibuprofen out of my purse.) I continued to take my dog to Dr. DeRemer after we moved to downtown Portland, just because of all the positive experiences we had at Paws and Claws.

Bad Very Very bad read on!

I'm sure I might get flagged but just had to vent. I took my pug in to Paws & Claws because she wasn't eating and got very, very sick within three days, we've been going there since she was a puppy, 6 weeks old. We took her in with the intention of putting her down so she wouldn't suffer because it was clear that she was suffering from something and didn't seem like she was going to make it another day. We gave them 130.00 to have her put down, my kids are terribly upset about her being put down and not having her in our family anymore. The vet comes back in and says she's not ready to put her down because it could be something very simple, but wasn't sure what it was. She asked us to give up ownership to her so that she could do what needed to be done without calling us for everything that needed to be done and would be able to purchase her back if she made it through. When they weren't calling us about updates we called them just to find out how she was doing. They then told us that we weren't allowed to call to find out how she was doing because she was no longer ours. They did say that she was very septic and had matter in her stomach and they would try to do surgery. The next phone call we got was the vet calling us on Friday October 10th saying if you want her back you need to pay 5,266.00 by Monday the 13th at noon or else she's going to another family that will not have to pay that money to adopt her, just an adoption fee. My kids and I are extremely upset because she's our family and don't want her going to someone else, we want her back. We're not asking for money because I've seen so many people post things like that to help people get their animals, I'm really just venting because I think it's ridiculous that they won't even offer a payment plan or possibly even write of any of the costs because that's what they will do with the family that will be adopting her. If you ever have a situation like this, please don't go to Paws & Claws.

Great group of people who care.

I am a former Certified Veterinary Technician who has worked at a variety of Vet clinics and Paws and Claws was the best. When I worked there I saw first hand how caring the owner and staff are. If you are honest with them and let them know your situation they can work with you on the best care for your pet. It is always good to hear from the people behind the scenes, trust me when I say alot of clinics are not so professional when the owner is not around. This has been the only place that I can say I would truly trust my pet with. I now live in North Portland and I may be getting a new puppy soon and it will be worth it to drive all the way to Troutdale. When you choose your pets vet make sure you get recommendations from people you know.

Professional care from friendly, knowledgeable staff

I phoned the clinic to see when I could schedule my puppy's booster immunizations, and the friendly staff slotted me in that afternoon. Dr. De Remer is friendly, funny, professional and honestly cares about his furry patients and their humans. He gave my puppy her check-up, vaccinations, and started her on a health reigime that will see her through the rest of her life. He made sure I knew what health issues my breed of puppy is likely to encounter in her life, and we even talked about training and housebreaking techniques. His staff in the office were absolutely delightful, and my puppy actually enjoys going for her vet checkup.

expensive for pocket pets, poor follow up treatment

I got very good service from the vet in regard to treating my rodent, although I thought the service was somewhat pricey for pocket pets. They ordered two (very small) quantities of medicine for my rodent to take home that were around $20 each. One of them was packaged in a test tube and instructed me to keep it in the dark. They assured me that there was enough medicine to treat my other rodent as well for mites. Because they put a small quantity in the test tube (removing the meds from original packaging), the medicine was absorbed into the rubber cap. When I informed them of the mistake in packaging, they insisted it was my problem and I would have to purchase another $20 in meds.

Good Experience w/Dr De Remer

Dr De Remer has been my vet since before the clinic on Stark in Troutdale opened it's doors. He made a house call (!) to check on my sick cat. I find him to be an excellent listener, very friendly and cordial, and willing to answer any question I have. He explains the options for treatment of the problem, and then ""weights"" the choices with probable outcomes. I find his advice and treatment consistently good.

Having to put down my very old, sick cat was difficult, but Dr De Remer's kindness and explanations got me through the process.

My 2 small dogs just had dental surgery. Both dogs did very well, and are healing perfectly. Stitches for removal of a growth on one dog were clean and dry when I picked them up and healed without infection.

I highly recommend Dr De Remer as a caring and experienced vet.
