Small town charm is now a red flag for me and Im sure it works if you have endless pockets - I dont. Here is my experience: I pulled the plug on this company over rude and condescending behavior that became unprofessional very quickly. I called numerous companies and this company (Paul) was the most expensive by far, but I felt like the owner gave me the attention and responsiveness that the others didn't; this made the difference and I decided I'd pay more for this reason. In hindsight, I'd say be leery of those who use sir or ma'am five times in the same sentence. I thought it was a little over-the-top, but now I know it's because the company wants to "befriend" you. Everything changed when I started to question the jobs I hired him to do. The first issue came up ironically the day I called him to give him a green light to do the expensive work which was three jobs including deck work. Typical to what I was accustomed to, he contacted me after I had texted late in the day. He began small talking and mostly dragging out a conversation that could have happened in 2 minutes into about 15. The subject matter was the deck work and it morphed into the housing market and how decks don't make much of a difference in the buyer's incentive which sent a mixed message to me because apparently, beyond his own comprehension, he was actually encouraging me to not have deck work done. I figured it wasn't worth it then, especially if the "pro" is saying it's very little impact on home values. I figured I'd just replace a few rotten boards instead of the whole deck - as I had contracted in the work. This led me to ask how much the deck work was since it was part of three jobs. He began to belittle me and his tone quickly changed. He began acting frustrated that "I am now doing the back and forth" as he put it. I called him out on it as did my wife who was listening in so I told him not to get off on the wrong foot here, I was simply applying what he told me himself! He explains he's had a long day and he's tired (justifying rude unprofessional behavior). I start again and this time just ask him if he could breakdown the three jobs into an itinerary for pricing (parts/labor per job). Again, he becomes angry and frustrated at this and says that I'm apparently the only one who's ever asked him for a price breakdown (Really?) At this point my blood was boiling and my wife literally punched me so I muted the phone during his rant. She said exactly what I was thinking - there is no way we would ever hire someone who is this rude and unprofessional to a potential customer. I un-muted the phone and explained that since I am hindering him with potential work worth 3K, I wouldn't pursue his services. No acknowledgment as he hangs up immediately. This is the true character of this company - don't let all the sirs and ma'ams fool you. His company is based on deception to keep you from seeing the exaggerated costs. I think after 32 years, if a company gets to this low - RETIRE!
