I was extremely grateful that New Beginnings/New Life Church offered me, (a homeless veteran) a place to stay while I was getting on my feet. Unfortunately, the place was infested with bed bugs and the back yard looked like a junk yard. Also, some Veterans were provided better accommodations than others, such as microwaves and refrigerators, while others were denied these items. When I requested a little more drawer space (I had 3 small drawers, while other vets had whole chests of drawers and more), I was falsely accused of being a complainer, when all I ever expected was equal treatment.
Their discriminatory actions were most obvious in their inconsistent policies on the consumption on alcoholic beverages. Several of the "favored" clients were allowed to return to the facility after going out on drunken binges numerous times, whereas when I over indulged due to an extreme emotional crisis and familial upheaval, I was unceremoniously awoken and kicked out of my room in the middle of the night and forced to sleep in the weeds like a dog.
The Police were summoned, even though I committed no offences or broke any laws; and my roommate, who had to work the next day, was denied a good night's sleep while my property was stuffed into bags--which broke and damaged several of my irreplaceable family heirlooms. No human being should be treated like that, especially by those who claim to be true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. The proper, godly way to deal with the situation would have been to wait until morning and allow me to pack my own belongings and exit the facility in a dignified manner.
I didn't have a problem with being asked to leave, but the MANNER in which it was handled was anything but "Christian", and I feel that Gary and the other staff members involved should be reprimanded; and if they refuse to acknowledge their wrongdoing and repent, they should be fired. I'm not really surprised at their actions because the Lord himself was mistreated and crucified by those claiming to be righteous followers of God, and He often reminded us to beware of wolves in sheeps clothing. Beware of these facts if you decide to go there.
