- Dental ExaminationIn recent years, bacterial inflammation associated with gum disease has been linked to chronic health problems, such as stroke, coronary artery disease and premature, low birth-weight babies. Yet there are a number of things you can do to help protect your teeth and your overall health. Visiting your dentist at least twice a year allows us to thoroughly clean your teeth, and dental exams give us the ability to evaluate any potential problems (i.e. cavities, gingivitis, etc.) before they become more serious. We are also able to recognize whether a patient is getting proper nutrition, maintaining a proper oral hygiene regimen and whether there are any growth or development problems.
- Teeth CleaningI was introduced to Dr. Michaud and his lovely wife, Joey, while getting my routine periodontal cleaning. At the time, I was wearing a partial bridge when Dr. Michaud had asked me if I would consider implants. I was interested but a little afraid of the whole process. After much thoughtful consideration, I decided to go through with it. I can't express how thankful I am to Dr. Michaud and Joey for making me feel comfortable through this entire process. It has truly been a life-changing experience because I was always self-conscious about my teeth. I never wanted to smile or even laugh, however now, I am very secure in who I am. I am able to laugh, smile, and speak in front of people with confidence, and for that I will be forever grateful to the both of them. I would highly recommend Dr. Michaud for any periodontal or implant procedures.

- Veneers
- CrownsCrown lengthening – procedure used to correct teeth that appear too short, or "gummy" smiles, by reshaping the gum and supporting tissues to expose more of the tooth.
- BridgesAdjacent teeth do not have to be altered to support an implant, such as with bridgework. This is significant for your overall oral health by leaving more of your own teeth untouched. With a tooth-supported fixed bridge, the adjacent teeth are ground down to support the fixed bridge.
- Root Canal TreatmentI have been a periodontal patient since the 1980s. Due to what is now known to be a contributing cause of periodontal disease, genetics and bruxism (tooth grinding), at that time the extent of the periodontal disease was a shock due to my relatively young age (mid 30s) and care given to my teeth as I faithfully saw a dentist twice annually and followed all dental recommendations. At that time, the only recourse available was surgery. The surgery was successful, but painful. Since I was young, my recovery was routine, but it still took many weeks to months for my mouth to recover. Flash forward to 2010. At that point, most of my back teeth had root canals and crowns due to the bruxism, and I had lost a tooth due to fracture. Dr. Michaud informed me that it was again time to treat my mouth, and he recommended laser surgery. I am extremely pleased to report that this surgery was significantly less painful and the recovery period was very short. In addition, my mouth feels better. Although I lost another tooth due to fracture, totally unrelated to periodontics, I fully recommend laser treatment to anyone who is a candidate.
- Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
- Deep CleaningThis is a deep-cleaning, nonsurgical procedure, done under a local anesthetic, whereby plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line are scraped away (scaling) and rough spots on the tooth root are made smooth (planing). Smoothing the rough spots removes bacteria and provides a clean surface for the gums to reattach to the teeth. Scaling and root planing is done if your dentist or periodontist determines that you have plaque and calculus (hardened plaque, also called tartar) under the gums that needs to be removed.
- DenturesPatients who have trouble wearing a conventional denture or who desire a full arch fixed prosthesis may benefit greatly from the All-on-4® dental implant concept. Four precisely placed dental implants in the upper or lower jaw can serve to support a fixed restoration that replaces all of your teeth in that jaw. A screw retained dental prosthesis is attached to the implants giving the patient the security of something that does not move or fall out. In many cases, teeth can be extracted, the implants placed, and a temporary denture affixed in the same day.

- Dental ImplantsMichaud Periodontics & Dental Implants is one of Tampa's best when it comes to total dental care. What sets them apart from the rest is the quality of the staff Dr. Michaud has put together. They are people oriented and make you feel at home. There were no hidden surprises, which demonstrates their competence. I highly recommend this dental practice; they are an example of what is good in the Tampa Bay area.
- Oral Surgery
- Flap SurgeryFlap surgery – a procedure where the infection is cleaned out of a periodontal pocket through an incision in the gum. The gum flap is then repositioned to help reduce the pocket and encourage healing.
- Osseous Surgery
- Tooth ExtractionsTo potentially stave off this result, an extraction of one, several or all of the wisdom teeth may be advised. If that is the case, we have the equipment and training needed to perform such extractions, with an absolute minimum of discomfort. Ask our staff for more information regarding tooth extractions if you feel you may need one.

- Bone GraftingDr. Robert Michaud was born in Quebec City, Canada. He received his Bachelor of Science degrees in Microbiology and Biotechnology from Florida Atlantic University. He then attended Boston University where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. He graduated with honors and was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. Dr. Michaud then completed his education earning a Master of Science Degree in Dentistry with a Certificate in Periodontics from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. This surgical residency allowed for extensive training in dental implants, bone grafting, periodontal disease and periodontal plastic surgery.
- OrthodonticsOrthodontics is not merely for improving the aesthetics of the smile; orthodontic treatment improves bad bites (malocclusions). Malocclusions occur as a result of tooth or jaw misalignment. Malocclusions affect the way you smile, chew, clean your teeth or feel about your smile.

- Cosmetic DentistryA receding gum line is one of the visible signs of periodontal disease and has the ability to encourage further damage by allowing greater access to the bacteria that causes it. Traditionally, it has been not feasible to treat receding gums. AlloDerm is a major breakthrough for cosmetic dentistry. While it is not possible to regrow receding gums, Alloderm allows for the predictable treatment of receding gums, essentially reversing this sign of aging and giving patients back a beautiful smile.
