Avoid this place! Half a year ago, I would say if you just wanted to sublease a place and stay for a while, and then sublease it to someone else, I suggest you living here. But after I lived there for half a year, a few things have been bothering me: 1. I lived in the basement and the wall was rotten. I requested the maintenance three times and after two months, they poked a hole on the wall then left. After three months, I met the maintenance guys at home and finally asked them to have the hole covered. The maintenance guys told me when the houses were built, there were not water proof layers inside the wall, which caused the water leakage from outside and caused the wall rotten.2. when I moved in, I subleased the room from a friend, and Copper Beech charged $250 as sublease fee. When I tried to sublease it to someone else, they charged 85% of a month's rent as "reletting fee", and they said the rules changed two months after I moved in. THEY DID NOT EVEN TELL THE RESIDENTS, even when I renewed the lease! So I paid over $400, just trying to get out of this place. 3. When I renewed the lease, I was asked to pay $150 community fee for the next year, so I can use the CATA buspass. I even asked the staff, if I sublease the room, whether I can still use the buspass for the next year. The staff said yes, because I paid for it. When I moved out, they refused to return the $150, and they asked me to return the buspass! AND they didn't even admit they said those words! I paid $300 community fee, and I only used the buspass for half a year! Besides, every time the room is subleased, they charge the new resident $150 community fee, and will not return it to the old resident.4. I paid $255 deposit when I moved in, but they only returned $250 to me. I wouldn't even bother to ask the $5 back.5. I met a lawyer after I moved out. The lawyer said a few years ago, there were tons of lawsuits against Copper Beech from students, and most of them won. Some students were charged over $3,000 when they moved out, and some were charged for $30,000. After they lost the lawsuits, they stayed nice for a short time. Now as they sold the property to another company called Asset Campus Housing, they turned back to what they were a few years ago. They just try to scrape any penny they can from the tenants. Anyway, as I have moved out, I will stay away from this place and tell all my friends to stay away from this place. This is the only thing I can do.
