- Dental ExaminationMost dental insurance benefits cover regular dental exams and cleanings twice each year. Just like Dr. Thomas, dental insurance companies understand that a checkup is an important preventive step that can help you avoid more invasive and often more expensive procedures. That’s why your benefits may also cover the cost of a filling, which can help stop the spread of tooth decay.
- X-raysDigital dental X-Rays are an important preventive care tool that helps Dr. Thomas diagnose a variety of dental problems. Because they’re high quality and clear images, they don’t leave anything to chance and are completely safe for the patient. Without them, some of the following problems can go undetected...

- Teeth CleaningIt’s essential that every patient visit the dentist two times a year for checkups and teeth cleanings. These regular appointments allow us to prevent many of the major oral health concerns and diagnose and treat others in the earliest stages. If you’re new to the Sparks area and looking for a dental office for your family, the Vista Dental Care team invites you to contact us to schedule an appointment. At your six month checkups, we’ll help you maximize your oral health and keep your whole, natural smile for a lifetime. Once you leave our office, it’s essential that you continue to care for your smile at home. Read on to learn more about proper at-home hygiene or ask one of our team members at your next appointment.
- Dental SealantsSealants are used to place a barrier between tooth enamel and the potentially harmful plaque and tartar buildup. Often recommended for young patients who are still learning to properly care for their smiles, dental sealants can be quickly and easily placed during any six month checkup at Vista Dental Care. Dental Sealants may also be beneficial for adult patients who have thinner enamel layers, struggle with frequent tooth decay, or those who have deeper pits and grooves in the biting surfaces of their teeth. We simply coat the teeth in liquid sealant. Then, a curing light is used to harden the dental sealant into position. Once in place, dental sealants will remain effective for several years. Contact our Sparks dental team to find out more or schedule an appointment.
- FillingsTraditionally, metal amalgam fillings were the standard in care for patients who need fillings for dental decay or damage. Today, we prefer using tooth-colored, composite resin filling materials for a number of reasons. Vista Dental Care is a mercury-free practice. We are dedicated to exceeding the minimum standards in safety for our patients, and by eliminating mercury-containing materials from our office, we have taken a step toward improving safety. Additionally, tooth-colored materials offer a strong, longer lasting, and more natural looking restoration option. If you’d like to find out more about composite resin fillings, continue reading this page or contact our team to schedule an appointment today.
- Resin CompositeMinor tooth decay or damage can often be repaired using tooth-colored, composite resin filling materials. We apply the putty-like resin directly to the damaged area. Then, shape it into position. Once in place, the resin is hardened using a curing light. The entire process is completed quickly and comfortably.
- VeneersVeneers are thin sheaths of dental grade porcelain that are affixed to the front facing surfaces of teeth to conceal cosmetic flaws. We recommend veneers for those patients who want to correct numerous flaws over a large portion of their smile. If we determine that veneers are your best option, you’ll need to visit our office at least two times. During the first visit, we prepare teeth by removing a small amount of tooth enamel from the front surfaces of teeth. Then, we capture digital bite impressions that are used by our lab to craft your custom porcelain veneers. We typically place a temporary to protect your prepared dental structures. Once we receive the final veneer, you’ll return to our office to exchange the temporary for your custom veneer.
- CrownsA dental crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that completely surrounds a damaged, broken, or decayed tooth. Traditionally, the process for a crown has taken two or more visits to the dentist, with weeks of waiting in between -- time you would have to spend wearing a temporary restoration. But today, Dr. Marc A. Thomas is pleased to offer a better option for dental crowns with CEREC one-visit technology. Keep reading to find out how it works and whether or not you can benefit from a one-visit crown.

- Root Canal TreatmentIf you say the phrase, “root canal” many responses are less than positive. However, when we need to perform a root canal, the procedure is safe, comfortable, and relieves toothache and dental sensitivity immediately in most cases. - Deep CleaningScaling and root planing actually involve two separate procedures. Also known as a deep cleaning, it removes hardened plaque and allows the gum tissue to heal. During the scaling portion of the treatment, a special dental tool is used to clean plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. After the gingival pockets are cleaned, root planing is used to smooth the surfaces on the teeth. This allows the gum tissue to reattach to them to seal out future build up.
- DenturesTraditional partial and full dentures use a gum-colored base material to support numerous replacement teeth or a full row of teeth. The partial will fit snuggly filling the gaps in the smile held in place using clasps attached to surrounding teeth. Full, removable dentures are shaped to fit against the gum line. The snug fit creates suction between the denture base and gum line that holds the prosthetic in place. These restorations need to be replaced every five to ten years and only restore about 20% of chewing ability.
