As always lawyers tell you wan...

As always lawyers tell you want you want to hear before you pay them. Once they receive the check its a different story. I hired Joshua Matthews to complete my case after spending several thousands of dollars with my current lawyer I could no longer afford her fees.

I paid Joshua another $2500, needless to say I had to call his office numerous times before I would get a call back from his assistant Tricia (after I called for 3 weeks) saying that he was in a meeting HE IS ALWAYS IN AMEETING, he knew nothing about my case a few weeks out from our court date. He had several options he explained in my first meeting and then refused to do any additional work that WAS INCLUDED in the contract i.e. interoggatories, discovery etc. NOTHING.

The only way I could contact him was to call his office back and act like someone else so I could have a face to face with him (that meant taking off more time at work). He had no idea who I was and court was in less than 30 days. My emails were never returned and then he showed up to court late and unprepared. Court was terrible. I felt as if he was rushing to get a settlement and was not for my/daughters best interest, but that of his.

Joshua gives a great spiel about his little girls and family making you think that he actually cares when the check cashes he turns into someone else. Also he said that he has been a lawyer for many years (10 plus)when I interviewed him and this is not true... try 4 years barely.

Joshua Matthews and the Matthews group are unprofessional and rude. Joshua raised his voice at me, spoke to me in a cedescending tone and made the situation worse between our counsel. He is worthless but there is nothing I can do about it besides warn others not to hire him.

Save your money and find a different law firm. This firm charged me $4,000 dollars and did absolutely nothing. They are horrible, I hired another attorney and within three days he was able to solve my issues with my divorce and get me far more than these so called attorneys were willing to even try and do. The Mathews group had my case for ten months and did nothing. They don't inform you about what is going on, they don't ever call you back!!! You better be willing to call them constantly to find out anything. The attorney that was doing my case, Tyler, went to work for the law firm that my ex had and they filed a no conflict of interest form without my signature!!!! HE LEFT IN JULY, AND I NEVER FOUND OUT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 29 THAT HE LEFT!!!!!! The Mathews group is shady, their practices are shady, and I wouldn't trust this law firm to handle anything. Go give your money to charities rather than pay them to represent you. This firm acts like they are doing you a favor because you hired them. So if you like being treated unprofessionally and not getting anything that you want in a divorce, then I guess this is the firm for you. DO NOT HIRE THIS HORRIBLE FIRM!!!!! P.S. yes I am filing a complaint with the board too.

We saw the Mathews Group today(5/13) and felt so blessed that this office has the most caring people. This office has really professional people that are very knowledgable about the law for our situation. It is so inspiring to meet people that are changing our world for the better and I thank them so much for doing this.

When my wife and I came in to their office the first time, we really weren't sure what to expect. I hadn't been to a lawyer since my divorce, ten years before and my wife had never been to one. When we got into the office, everyone was very polite, and they offered us water and pop. They've got this client manager who came out and she started meeting with us, filling out some paperwork. I asked if we were going to get to see a lawyer, and she told us that the owner of the firm would be meeting with us.

When Mr. Mathews came in, he was kind of a surprise. He's this big bear of a guy, and he comes in all casual and starts shaking hands and making small talk. Then he sits down and asks us what's going on. For the next hour and a half, we talked about everything that had happened, from the original divorce and through the next decade. He took notes on everything, and talked to us about everything that we could do. I needed to modify the divorce, because I wasn't getting to see my kids enough. Their mother had been keeping them from me as much as she could. Always telling me that they were too busy or had some school thing or whatever. It had gotten to where I only saw my twelve year old like once a month, and the fourteen year old hadn't been over to the house for two months. I knew they wanted to come over, because they kept writing to me on facebook.

Mr. Mathews told us what he thought he could do, and exactly what it would cost. No bs or fine-print. Here's what it costs, whether it takes a day or a year. We hired him at about 2:30, and we came back at 4:00 to sign the papers. After that we worked with Angela alot. She's another attorney, and she was really helpful. She wrote up all the papers and went to the first couple of things in court. Every time we came in though, Mr. Mathews would come down and sit with us and talk with us about our case or our kids. When he heard about me losing my job, he even called around to some of his clients and got me two interviews. I didn't take either of those jobs, but I thought that was really nice. Finally I called Mr. Mathews and said that I didn't think my x-wife was going to agree to anything. He told me not to worry about it, and that the court was going to make some changes one way or the other. He also told us that when we went to the trial, he would be there with us.

After they made us go to mediation, (which didnt work), we finally got to go to court. Mr. Mathews walks in with all these binders and folder full of stuff. He told me to go up on the stand and I don't remember much about what was said, but I remember feeling like things were going really well. Then the other attorney got up and started asking me questions, and really being kind of rude. Plus, she kept asking about some stupid thing from back when i was still married to my x. Mr. Mathews got up every time and objected, and every time the judge told her to cut it out. In the end it was clear that he really knew what he was doing, and that the other lawyer knew it too. You could see her getting flustered every time he objected. Then, when Mr. Mathews was asking my x-wife questions she kept objecting and the judge overuled her every time I think.

Anyway, we won everything and got exactly what we wanted, plus got my child support lowered. At the end I asked him if he was sure we didn't owe him any more money, and he said he was sure. But he said that if we wanted to do something, and if was fair to us, we could write a review. Well, I can honestly say that Mr. Mathews was way more than fair with us. Him and everybody else over there treated us like friends, almost family. Tricia, the client manager lady would call us at night from her house to check in on us because she knew I couldn't answer my phone during the day.

These are really good people, and I'm really glad I found them.

Finally a law firm that makes you feel comfortable. When I called his office I was able to speak to a member of the team for 15 minutes. I set the consultation appointment for the next day. From the moment I walked in the door I knew I wanted to hire Joshua Mathews and his team. Joshua was truly listening to my story and never once made me feel intimidated or rushed (feelings I felt at other law firms). While this was one of the most difficult times in my life, the entire team makes you feel at ease. I recommend this firm to everyone searching for a family law attorney.

This site is great! I wish I knew about it before I went and use the Mathew law firm. Indeed one of the biggest mistakes of my life. They use the flat rate excuse to basically screw your life. When you first meet them they tell you everything you want to hear and even take notes. They call you a day before your court date to ask you to repeat what you told them earlier only to find out that another lawyer is now handling your case. I had 3 lawyers go over my case yes ladies and gentlemen 3 lawyers and each one of them had no clue what to do about the case expect to tell you it could be worse.. Really?? They ask you to fill your information about the case about 3 times because they can’t seem to even keep your records on file. Basically you get what you paid for which is basically nothing. Indeed ones of the worst experiences of my life. Stay away!!!

The problem with the Mathews G...

The problem with the Mathews Group is they use the flat rate system, so once you sign the contract, they have no incentive to help. When I first called about their services, I walked to Mr. Mathews within 5 min and met with him that same day for about an hour. After the meeting, which went well and he told me everything I wanted to hear, I signed the contract. That's when things changed.

I was not able to get a hold of him after that. He couldn't find time to meet with me before court, he was supposed to meet me early beforehand, but he showed up late to court and did not even bring the documents I provided hm. I was essentially representing myself during the divorce hearing, which likely cost me. Thankfully the judge did make a fair decision regardless. My ex told me her lawyer had even commented afterwards how unprepared Mr. Mathews was.

After court, he did not communicate the next steps. I found out later it took him over 2 months to get the paperwork in to the court. When I started received bills from the court, I called them and they said my attorney was supposed to go over it with me. When I told them my troubles, they encouraged me to write my complaint to the board since he had failed at his obligation. The few times I did talk with him, he was very rude and told me he didn't have time.

In summary, the Mathews group is really good at getting you to sign their contract for their flat-rate services, but after that, they have no incentive to do the very bare minimum. I really felt scammed that after I paid him thousands of dollars, and he did barely anything.

Just got divorced in Johnson C...

Just got divorced in Johnson County. Judge is splitting things up, and with a lot of different assets, it all gets kind of confusing. When the Judge gets finished, I'm not thrilled with the result, but it sounds fair. That's when Josh Matthews stand up and tells the judge that he thinks he caught a mistake. He's real nice about it, and clearly doesn't want to make the judge look bad, but he's pretty sure he can show where it is messed up. The judge listens, but then basically tells him he's wrong. Josh ends up going up to the judge's bench with a pad of paper and a marker, and diagrams the whole thing. Turns out the judge had made a tax error, and Josh was the only one who caught it.

Saved me $80,000.

I might have been able to get divorced for $3000 with some other lawyer, but nobody else would have caught something like that.

They were great.

Josh met with us nearly 2 year...

Josh met with us nearly 2 years ago and has helped my husband battle not 1, but 5 cases, of which none of them are easy. He has met with us outside of normal work hours when we could not make the normal lawyers 9-5. He started it all with a flat rate that we discussed during our first meeting and he has held to that even though 2 of the cases seem to be a lot more difficult than we thought. But, he is not giving up on us. Any other lawyer would have continued to charge us more and more & honestly would have thrown their hands up and given up a long time ago. Josh & Mike have had to use very creative ways to help my husband. From our very first meeting to the meeting we just had last week, Josh has given us hope and kept us informed as to what each of our next steps are. Unfortunately, when it comes to minor children in separated households, the battle seems to be never ending unless one person gives up. We know as long as we are willing to continue to fight, Josh is willing to stand by our side & help us. Even when we are thinking we should just give up, he let us know that we still have other options. We are extremely thankful that they are helping us.

Don't know about the other rev...

Don't know about the other review, but I talked to Josh and the rest of the staff all the time. They were super attentive, and I always felt like I knew what was going on. Josh represented me in court and was fantastic. Most importantly, I could tell that Josh really cared about what happened to my son. I couldn't be happier.
