James Cropper plc is a specialist paper manufacturer founded in 1845 now employing some 600 people, operating in four divisions and selling products worldwide. Technical Fibre Products was formed by James Cropper plc in 1985 on the same site with the strategic intention to diversify the Company's product portfolio. As a result, Technical Fibre Products manufactures nonwoven mats and veils for industrial markets from synthetic or mineral fibres such as carbon, aramid, ceramic and glass. Key to the success of the organisation is a commitment to a strong, customer-centric focus. This approach facilitates the delivery of groundbreaking product innovation through working in partnership with both customers and suppliers. Such alliances include joint development programmes and supply arrangements, which have long-term mutual benefit. Production Technical Fibre Products is based around two speciality forming machines which were derived from technology developed by James Cropper plc. These advanced production techniques enable modern fibres to be transformed into mats and veils such that the key performance characteristics of the fibres are incorporated into the finished product. Products are utilised in end-uses as diverse as sporting goods and aerospace. The company is recognised internationally in its own right and has manufacturing accredited to international standards such as ISO 9001: 2008, ISO 14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001: 1999. Sites are located in Cumbria, UK ( Head Office ) and Cheshire, UK and a subsidiary in Newburgh, New York ( Technical Fibre Products Inc ) serves the Americas. Additionally, Electro Fiber Technologies LLC ( Connecticut, USA ) and Metal Coated Fibers Inc. ( Ohio, USA ) are wholly owned subsidiaries of Technical Fibre Products and produce speciality metal coated fibres. Technical Fibre Products has always actively pursued the development of new products. The Company is wholly committed to new product development especially for products where innovative solutions are required to create competitive advantage. Typical exciting developments involving high profile industrial partners include the ultra lightweight carbon fibre tissues developed with Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells. These products are used for the critical gas diffusion layer in proton exchange membrane fuel cells ( used to generate 'clean' electricity ). Another successful development includes a complete range of high temperature insulation papers supplied to Thermal Ceramics, a division of Morgan Crucible plc, for refractory and other industrial markets.
