General Info

With more than 27 years working as an ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist, Dr. Weiner brings experience, dedication, and personal attention to every patient he treats. He believes in using the most advanced technologies and treatment protocols to help in achieving the best possible outcomes. In fact, when Dr. Weiner was practicing in Michigan, he was the first surgeon to perform a new glaucoma procedure called Trabectome® in that state. He is also one of the few doctors in the area to utilize the iStent during cataract surgery to help reduce eye pressure caused by mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma. Helping glaucoma patients is very close to Dr. Weiner’s heart. When his father was diagnosed with glaucoma, he experienced firsthand the devastation the loss of vision can have on a loved one. Dr. Weiner is inspired by his father and dedicates his career to the care of his glaucoma patients. Dr. Weiner completed his medical and ophthalmology training at the Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, Israel and in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed a glaucoma fellowship at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as a fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary at Harvard University in Boston. Dr. Weiner has shared his passion of ophthalmology with professorship positions at Oakland University in Rochester Michigan, William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, and at SUNY Downstate as one of its directors of ophthalmology. Dr. Weiner is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the American Glaucoma Society. Dr. Weiner discusses the importance of early detection and the latest in glaucoma treatment on WAMC Northeast Public Radio, Medical Monday on the Vox Pop Program.
