If you've never been here, make a special point of stopping by--I think it's the best bookstore in Santa Cruz. The selection is amazing--lots of texts for UCSC classes but also everything you could ever want in History, Politics, Anthro., Philosophy, Literature. Everyone that works there loves books and will go out of their way to help you. The bookstore is crammed with books it's a great place to spend a rainy day.
