AVOID THIS DUMP. THEY NICKEL AND DIME YOU. I GOT CHARGED 18.00 FOR A GAS CAP. EITHER I PAID THE FOR A NEW GAS CAP, OR HE WOULD FAIL THE TEST AND I WOULD HAVE TO RETEST. STAY AWAY.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I took my 1993 Volvo 940 in for a smog check. This was the first time in 20 years that it did not pass. They offered a free retest only if they repaired it, and quoted $85 for diagnostics with "over one hour of work" which often covers a simple repair. I left it for the afternoon and then received a quote of $1,100 to repair it. The price seemed very high, so I took it to my regular Volvo Mechanic who did the repair for $350. I returned to Star for the "free retest." They refused, saying that the $85 for one hour of work did not count as a repair. The owner said they make their money doing repairs and not doing smog tests, which explains the excessive $1,100 quote for repairs. GM Automotive will do a free retest without strings, so I have taken 3 of our cars there now and will never go back to Star again. Beware of Star... they are out to milk you for expensive repairs.

Been ther twice now. Smog and oil change. Fast, honest, skilled, and reasonable. I'm going again for tires soon. Very clean shop and easy parking. -Bret Stewart
