He is accepting new patients at Cape Cod Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, P.C.. Dr. Remia currently sees patients at our main office in Hyannis and in Sandwich. He performs his surgery at Cape Cod Hospital as well as the Ambulatory Surgery and Laser Center of Cape Cod.Dr. Remia is pleased to offer Stem Cell treatment to relieve osteoarthritis (OA) pain and chronic tendinitis. Patients can benefit from a novel non-surgical procedure using their own stem cells. Stem cells can develop into nearly any tissue they come in contact with, utilizing the body’s repair mechanisms and growth factors to promote healing. Stem Cell therapy can be successful for the right candidates. A typical procedure visit will take approximately 30 minutes. Dr Remia harvests stem cells form the bone marrow typically in the patient’s posterior pelvic or iliac crest bone. The stem cells are then injected into the patient’s damaged joint or tendon using ultrasound guidance. The risk of rejection is very low as the stems cells are from the patient’s own body. Joints that are frequently treated with stem cell therapy include knees, hips, shoulders, ankles and some large hand joints. Patients can drive the same day and there is no significant recovery time. If you have painful joints or tendinitis, and are interested in avoiding surgery, call Dr. Remia to see if you are a candidate for stem cell therapy.
