Dr. James Baker is an orthopedic surgeon at Lone Star Orthopedics, P.A. in San Marcos, TX. We treat patients from the entire Central Texas area. James K. Baker, M.D. An experienced, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Baker previously practiced in Chalmette, LA (St. Bernard Parish), a suburban area just east of New Orleans. Unfortunately, hurricane Katrina caused severe damage to much of the parish - damage that will literally take years just to clean up. Dr. Baker’s practice, like that of thousands of other physicians in the hardest hit areas east of New Orleans and on the Mississippi gulf coast, was washed away with Katrina. With the gracious help of local physicians, he and his family have begun a new life in the Hill Country.

This medical practice is for the treatment of orthopedic disorders, i.e., surgical and medical treatments for conditions involving the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and certain nerve disorders. We are an independent medical practice. Because we are independent we have no bias in where you are referred for therapy, imaging, lab testing, etc. If you have a preference of where you would like to be seen, please let us know, and if the facility is appropriate for your condition, we can refer you to that facility.

We accept Medicare and most commercial insurance plans. We accept and treat worker's compensation patients. When you call for your appointment, please have your insurance card available so that we can confirm that we are on your particular insurance group. We also accept and treat worker's compensation patients, but we are not on every worker's compensation plan. Please call early after your injury so that we can determine if your carrier is contracted with us so that we can treat you. We may need information from your referring physician or your adjuster, case manager, or employer. We treat many worker's compensation patients and take pride in our ability to quickly and completely complete all paperwork associated with your claim.
