Located in San Francisco, School Health Programs Department is a division of the San Francisco Unified School District that provides various programs and services addressing health-related issues. It employs a multidisciplinary staff of more than 80 professionals and support staff, including health educators, school nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, peer resource coordinators and health workers. The health department assists school sites to develop, implement and coordinate programs and services for students. It offers a wide variety of services, such as staff health promotion, physical and health education, nutrition and health guidance, and health counseling and support services. The health department provides various programs, such as Tobacco Free Teams, teenage pregnancy prevention, healthy start programs. Its physical education program offers assistance in maintaining cardiovascular and respiratory fitness and provides fitness testing and stress management services.
