      Built in 1898, The Berkeley is a steam ferryboat that operated for more than 55 years in the San Francisco Bay in California. It is one of the leading historical landmarks in the United States. The facility is managed by the Maritime Museum of San Diego. The Berkeley houses a maritime research library, workshop, model shop, store and the museum s office. The facility also maintains a special events venue that can accommodate up to 750 guests and has dry storage and archive areas. Its lower and main decks contain various exhibits and displays. Founded in 1948, the Maritime Museum of San Diego maintains one of the world s leading collections of historic vessels.
