- Medical Weight LossExcessive amount of upper arm skin can occur after weight loss, or it can be an inherited trait. Disproportionate amounts of extra skin and fat in the upper arms can limit the clothing one can wear, and can interfere with many activities.
- Pregnancy
- Labor and DeliveryVaginaplasty refers to vaginal tightening. When the vaginal os, or external opening, is too wide, excessively large, or patulous, this situation can result in unsatisfactory sexual relations. Such a condition may be related to trauma, especially the trauma of childbirth, or the result of an episiotomy repair that failed. In either instance, the result is the same. Correction consists of transposing internal tissue flaps across the midline and securing them well.  The size of the vaginal opening, or “os,†must be carefully reconstructed to its normal diameter.  Thereafter, excess skin and mucosa are excised, and closure of the skin and mucosal covering is made over the repair. Sexual intercourse can be resumed in six weeks, at which time maximum strength of the repair will have been achieved.

- UltrasoundThere are a number of techniques available for performing liposuction, including ultrasound-assisted liposuction, power-assisted liposuction (which utilizes an oscillating cannula), and laser-assisted liposuction. We consider laser liposuction, which kills fat cells, to be dangerous and fraught with unnecessary complications. We, therefore, recommend against it. Despite catchy names, none of these variations have been shown to improve the results compared to safe vacuum liposuction.  They can increase the risk of complications and will be more expensive, guaranteed.
- General SurgerySubsequently, Dr. Fairbanks served in the U.S. Military as a General Medical officer at Raymond W. Bliss Army Community Hospital at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He completed his training in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which is affiliated with Penn State University. He completed his boards, becoming certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

- BotoxWhat is BOTOX®? Botulinum toxin is a chemical agent produced by a bacteria (clostridia Botulinum). In nature, it is considered to be a powerful poison, because of its ability to cause muscular paralysis. Once purified and quantified this agent has become useful to the medical profession to create weakness of over-active muscles. BOTOX® Cosmetic has been approved by the FDA to create local weakness (partial paralysis) of the frequently over-active muscles, which cause frowning, forehead wrinkling, and crows’ feet. The result is aesthetic improvement.
- Brow LiftThe good news is that a surgical correction called an eyebrow lift, forehead lift, or brow lift, is a highly successful operation, which improves the patient’s facial appearance to a remarkable degree. Of course, if necessary, the eyebrow lift may also be done in conjunction with eyelid surgery.
- Eyelid SurgeryDo you feel that you look tired or angry all the time, or do people frequently ask you if you’re upset? Some patients notice that they have developed excessive wrinkles in their forehead. Others find that they are constantly raising their eyebrows in order to see better. Many of these patients think that what they need is eyelid surgery, or a blepharoplasty, when in fact it is their brow that is drooping and needs to be raised.
- LiposuctionThere are two ways to get rid of excess hanging skin and fat of the upper arms.. If the condition is not pronounced, the lesser deformity can sometimes be corrected through liposuction. If the condition is pronounced, however, the large, hanging folds of skin and fat are best treated by surgical excision.  A combination of liposuction and excision is sometimes warranted.  These procedures can be performed safely and with minimal scarring
- Breast AugmentationIn addition to the use of repeat procedures, the use of external vacuum devices can serve to expand the skin and enhance the circulation so that more fat can be grafted than would otherwise be possible. Of course, this entire process depends on whether the patient has sufficient fat stores that can be used as donor sites. Otherwise, it is best to use the time-tested procedure of breast augmentation using a prosthetic device or breast implant.
- Breast ReductionDuring breast reduction surgery, the plastic surgeon must take the utmost care and attention to achieve artistic anatomical design to recreate the natural looking breast of normal size. There are a number of cosmetic operations available for breast reduction. Some procedures, however, fall short of achieving the ideal result. This can lead to patient disappointment; such procedures should be avoided. Correcting a less than desirable result can be difficult.
- Breast LiftA breast lift is a surgical procedure known as a mastopexy, which corrects breasts that are drooping, and restores them to an attractive, natural position.
- RhinoplastyWhen performing a rhinoplasty (nose job), it is important that the nose breathes well, as well as looks good. If you have difficulty breathing, be assured that nasal airway problems can be corrected physiologically so that your physical activities will not be hampered by breathing difficulties.
- Breast ReconstructionThe nipple sparing mastectomy–or subcutaneous mastectomy–followed by a submuscular implant for reconstruction, offers the best appearing breast after the removal of breast glandular tissue due to cancer or other disease. It can also be used for the prevention of breast cancer in high risk patients. After the mastectomy has been performed, a breast reconstruction procedure is performed in a second stage, utilizing a sub-muscular breast implant, to offer the most natural looking result of all the breast reconstructive procedures.
- Plastic SurgeryIf you are afflicted with this deformity be sure to call Fairbanks Plastic Surgery at (801) 268-8838 to make an appointment for a consultation/evaluation.
- Thigh LiftThe lateral buttock/thigh lift requires a scar, placed in the waistband area, where the removal of excess skin and fat occurs. The scar is easily concealed with swimwear or under garments.
- Face LiftYou may have asked yourself, “If I feel so good, why should I look so old?” and indeed, you don’t have to! If you show signs of facial aging or appear prematurely aged, your appearance can be predictably turned back 20 years with a deep-plane facelift. As a result, you can look like a younger version of yourself without any of the stretched, tell-tale signs of having had a facelift.
- BlepharoplastyIf you feel that your eyes look tired, angry, puffy, or droopy, there is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure, called a blepharoplasty, that can improve the appearance of your eyes dramatically.
- AbdominoplastyAn abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a cosmetic operation to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen. In most cases, the surgery will also restore separated muscles, making the stomach area look more smooth and firm.
- Nose SurgeryThis 40-year-old female underwent two prior nasal surgeries–by another surgeon. The second surgery resulted in a pencil-like bone graft on the dorsum, and a button of cartilage in the tip. This deformed appearance was corrected using the patient’s own cartilage in reconstructing missing internal parts of her nose.
- Body LiftThe various plastic surgery procedures involved in a lower body lift, or body contouring procedure, need to be planned appropriately to ensure the best results and protect the patient’s health. At Fairbanks Plastic Surgery Center, we make your health and safety our primary concern, while providing you the amazing results you desire.
- OtoplastyOtoplasty, or ear pinning, is a safe and highly successful procedure to correct protruding ears. The operation can be performed after the child has reached the age of six years old. By this time, the majority of ear growth has been achieved.
- Lip Augmentation
- Body ContouringFortunately, the surgical removal of this excess tissue, when safely performed, can provide gratifying relief. This cosmetic surgery is generally referred to as a body lift, a lower body lift, or body contouring.
- GynecomastiaGynecomastia is an enlargement of the male breast, and is sometimes jokingly referred to as “man boobs.†Gynecomastia is not an common deformity and can be a source of discomfort and embarrassment for men who are afflicted with it.
- Cosmetic SurgeryFor children who were born with an underdeveloped ear, cosmetic surgery can begin as early as age six. Older patients can be benefitted immediately following the accidental loss of an ear. In all cases, the most effective method for success will be achieved by carving a new framework from the patient’s own rib cartilage. Atresia refers to the absence of the external canal, which is almost always associated with microtia. If the internal components are developed well enough, an external ear canal can be created. This, however, should not be done until the external microtia repair has been completed.
- DermabrasionFat injection of the lips, combined with true dermabrasion, can result in greater fullness of the lips and correction of wrinkles and subcutaneous defects at the same time.
- Facial ImplantsFacial implants can be biologic, such as autogenous tissue transplanted from the patient, or material that is produced commercially. Non-biological implants are best suited to the chin and cheek bones, whereas biologic implants are mandatory for the nose since the overlying skin and subcutaneous tissue is too thin to support non-biological tissue.
- Bariatric SurgeryDr. Fairbanks has had broad training in Plastic Surgery. He is highly trained in cosmetic surgical procedures, including facial rejuvenation, nasal surgery, eyelid surgery, and lip enlargement. He is also highly trained in abdominoplasty, body contouring after bariatric surgery, liposuction, breast augmentation, and breast reduction. His work with fat grafting for both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures has produced impressive results. His special interest in congenital deformities include surgery of the ear (microtia), prominent ear, cleft lip and palate, as well as cranial vault deformities (craniosynostosis).
- Chin AugmentationFacial implants provide a plastic surgeon with the ability to make subtle changes in facial contour in order to enhance a person’s appearance. The most common types of implants are chin augmentation implants, cheek augmentation implants, and nose implants.
- Forehead Lift
- Skin CancerThe nose is that anatomic part with which we lead into all social situations. It is important that it looks normal. Loss of the nose or any of its parts can result from trauma, infection, or excision for malignancy. It is not uncommon for the plastic surgeon to encounter a patient on whom the end or the dorsum of the nose has been removed for a skin cancer. This is especially true in patients who have undergone Mohs chemosurgery by a dermatologist.
- Acne Treatment
- Chemical PeelsPlease don’t confuse facelift surgery with facial resurfacing procedures (e.g., laser treatments, chemical peels, or dermabrasion). Facial resurfacing refers to skin surface destruction, which then heals on the surface only. While beneficial in some instances, you cannot expect to attain anything comparable to the rejuvenation and youthful appearance you can have through a medically advanced and well-performed facelift operation. Resurfacing procedures also take longer to heal and have more downtime.
