- Drug CrimesMost drug cases are much less dramatic. People sell small quantities of pot, heroin, ecstasy or whatever they have in their homes, or on their own streets. Most sales involve $10 or $20. Police run “sting” operations to make arrests. Often, an undercover cop buys a small quantity from his target. After several small purchases, he tells the dealer that he can “move” a couple hundred grams or more of cocaine (for example). He then busts his target for dealing large quantities. This kind of case carries a penalty of FIFTEEN YEARS IN JAIL, MANDATORY. No parole, no probation, no reduction of sentence for any reason.
- Assault"Dan was recommended to me by a friend. I had several open domestic assault cases because my girlfriend was trying to get me deported. Dan took my cases to trial, and won. I think it is a miracle that I am still in this country after what she put me through. I owe Dan my life here with my new family, and I could not be more grateful."
- Restraining OrderA domestic restraining order (commonly called a 209A order in Massachusetts) is a court order to stay away from another person; to avoid contact with that person, and to comply with other conditions. The court can even order a parent not to contact his or her own children, and assign custody to the other parent. Most of the time, an initial restraining order is issued “ex parte,” or without your presence. This means that usually, you can’t even defend yourself against a temporary (10 day) order.

- BankruptcyA Chapter 13 bankruptcy might be a good option for you if you have a large amount of equity in your home, or if you have other significant assets such as expensive art, antiques, a large amount of money in the bank, or a second home. Chapter 13 can also work for people who have debts that are not discharged in Chapter 7, such as taxes.
- ForeclosureBankruptcy relief is very powerful. Once your case is filed with the court, bill collectors and creditors are not allowed to do anything to collect debts from you. It also means all lawsuits stop (they are usually dismissed), foreclosures are stopped, other legal proceedings against you are stopped, and you will probably never hear from your creditors again. No further action can be taken against you without Court approval.
