- ArthritisIn addition to diagnosis, testing can also be used to monitor status of known osteopenia/ osteoporosis. Current recommendations are to screen for bone density in postmenopausal women at age 65 and men at age 70. Younger men and women should also be tested if they have certain risk factors which include a fragility fracture, some chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and kidney disease, premature menopause, hormone treatment for prostate and breast cancers, significant loss of height, smoking history, family history of osteoporosis, regular use of corticosteroids, and significant alcohol use.

- Medical Weight LossThe amount of physical activity any individual person needs for weight loss can vary, but you will need to get both regular physical activity and a healthy eating plan to lose weight and keep it off. A good plan may include 30 to 60 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity, like brisk walking, done nearly every day. Find something you can do and find ways to enjoy it. Take a brisk walk or a jog with a friend or your dog.

- Pediatric CareThe American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screen time for children under 18 months of age. After 18 months of age screen time should be introduced slowly and limited to an hour a day for children from 2 to 5 years of age. Research has found that 87% of the children had screen time exceeding these recommendations. However, by age 7 and 8, screen time fell to under 1.5 hours per day – a decrease researchers attribute to children starting school. Children of first time mothers and children in home-based care were twice as likely to have high screen time.
- Primary CareDr. Emily Resch MD has been seeing patients with us at Parkway now since 5/11/2023 and is proving to be an excellent fit for this practice. Dr. Resch is 40 years old. She’s a primary care specialist in internal medicine. She graduated from Mounds View High School and St. Olaf College, and did her medical school and residency training in the Chicago area. She practiced previously in the Health Partners system, and decided several months ago to leave and search for an opportunity in private practice. We have been fortunate enough to find her and bring her in here at Parkway. She will be working along with Jan Easterday through the summer, and they will be joined late in the summer by a second exceptional physician, Dr. H.J. Yoon MD. These two fine doctors and Jan Easterday will be taking Parkway forward into the future. Dr. Ness is about to retire 6/1/2023, but will be available to fill in on occasion and otherwise help out. We feel that this arrangement and these doctors will produce highly favorable outcomes for our patients into the distant future and help each one achieve their optimum level of health. We are quite happy about this, and we think you will be too!

- Infectious DiseasesVaccines are recommended to protect travelers from illnesses present in other parts of the world and to prevent the importation of infectious diseases across international borders. Which vaccinations you need depends on a number of factors including your destination, whether you will be spending time in rural areas, the season of the year you are traveling, your age, health status and previous immunizations.
- Flu ShotsFlu shots are especially important for children older than 6 months, pregnant women, adults older than 50 and people with chronic illness or suppressed immune systems.
- ElectrocardiogramElectrocardiogram - EKG An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart. An EKG translates the heart's electrical activity into line tracings on paper. The spikes and dips in the line tracings are called waves. We do EKG tests in our clinic with our own specialized equipment, if we suspect something may be wrong we can immediately perform an EKG test and get the results without delay.

- Computed TomographyThe best way to predict whether you are at risk is to have a noninvasive CT scan of your heart to look for coronary calcium. This is considered by most experts to be the most reliable predictor of a future heart attack. The result of this scan is called a calcium score, and it reflects the amount of atherosclerotic plaque that you’ve built up in your coronary arteries over a lifetime. The higher your calcium score, the more plaque in your arteries and the greater your risk of a future heart attack or stroke.
