Bail; if the judge sets your bail at 10,000.00 you can bail out for that amount in cash or money order if you or your family has it and receive the 10,000.00 back once your case is over. But, what if you don't have the money like that?? 2. Bond; Call a Bondsman and pay 10% of the bail which was set by the judge. Usually 10%, some smaller bonds have additional fees. The 10% is the Bond companies and is now NON REFUNDABLE. Also, the defendant will need a co-signer or, some possible collateral depending on the size of the bond. Co-signer must be 18 years of age with a job. Collateral can be almost in any form of value property, cash, real estate, cars, etc... Co-signer takes full responsibility for amount of bond and fees if any incur. As long as the defendant (person in jail) Makes all court dates and is then found guilty, not guilty, or case dismissed. The bond is discharged and no more action is taken and then 10% is all you will ever pay. Case Closed! SO NEVER MISS COURT!!! Or be very careful in who you sign for! Missed court? Now it gets bad! If a persons misses a court date the judge forfeits the bond and then issues a bench warrant for arrest. Court notifies bonding company and bonding company starts the process to capture the fugitive and collect the forfeited amount from the defendant or Cosigner. Cosigner is responsible for fees and expenses in which the bounty hunter incurs. This is the process in terms of best, and worst case scenario's.
