I've been longing for a soul food joint close to Rock Hill area. There are skads of Asian, Italian and American food places; but no soul food restaurants. So when I saw on YP that 61 Roadhouse and Kitchen was in Webster Groves, I was amazed. My guy invited me to dinner on 4/6 to celebrate my birthday. Although it had occurred on 3/6!😂 Parking was hard to find. But, the trip was worth it. It was packed inside, we were seated immediately and had a gracious server. The decor is New Orleans fabulous and the live Blues band fronted by Eric Griffin was hot! They also have trivia night on Thursdays. The red beans with brown rice and grilled sausage was delish. The greens reminded me of my Grandma's cooking. The server was kind enough to get me some mint from the bar for my (Southern style) iced tea with lemon. The drinks were large. My guy had the pulled pork with Mac and cheese. The only complaint he had was the pulled pork was coated in BBQ sauce. So, he exchanged it for the fried catfish. He loved the Mac and cheese.
Although we were the only Black patrons there, the other patrons sitting next to us reached across the aisle and engaged us in some lively conversations. I and the lady next to me were feeling out about Jesus Christ Superstar that was broadcast on Easter. We even hugged each other upon leaving. This impressed me, because I have had some unpleasant experiences in other establishments. If you're still reading, I will most definitely be returning to 61 Roadhouse and Kitchen. Hope to see you there!

A fun Route 66 "roadhouse" joint

What's a "joint"? A place to take family and friends, eat hearty, tasty food in a very relaxed surroundings and have a good time. I've only been here once, but will go back again. Nothing stuffy or fancy here, but the place is a homage to old rock-n-roll, blues music and food influences from Creole, Cajun, USA diner fare.. but all with some added pizazz. If ya want a more detailed menu description go to the Sauce Magazine website and read their detailed review of this place. It's located in Old Orchard part of Webster Groves, near the Laclede Station exit of Hiway 44. Prices decent, lots of parking ..oh and they have a real brick fireplace with real fire ... makes ya feel like you're at home or at a apres-ski hangout. They may even have live music in the evenings sometimes. There is also outside dining when the weather is good. Bon Apetit!
