McClatchy newspapers' many honors have included 13 Pulitzer Prizes, five of which were gold medals for public service. The company s largest newspaper is the Star Tribune in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., which it acquired in 1998. The oldest paper, The Sacramento Bee, was founded in 1857 and is the company s second largest. McClatchy s other operations include Newsprint Ventures, a consortium that operates the Ponderay newsprint mill near Spokane, Wash. The company employs nearly 9,300 people.
