Established in 1855, the Rock Island Fire Department provides protection services from fire, disaster and other emergency situations. The department protects life and property from environmental and natural calamities. It also offers fire suppression and emergency medical services. The Rock Island Fire Department maintains fire stations and has a work force of over 60 employees. The department additionally features a rescue squad and includes four engine companies. It offers confined space and hazardous material spillrescue services. The Rock Island Fire Department responds to over 4,000 emergency calls annually. In addition, The department is a part of the City of Rock Island, Ill.
