If you need to know the true meaning of LOVE, visit the Plumpton Park Zoo (PPZ). More love than anyone can imagine exudes from here. This is visibly apparent by the manner in which the animals are cared for by their caregivers and how they respond not only to them but also to guests of the zoo. The grounds of the zoo are filled with flowers, grasses, and a beautiful picnic/playground area just waiting for a family to enjoy. If you've been to PPZ you have already experienced the love and if you haven't, what are you waiting for? Jimmie (giraffe), Hope (European Brown Bear) and her cubs, Frankie and Ringo are waiting to meet and greet you. On your way through to see them don't forget to say hi to Quackers, the Peking Duck who loves to chat. Bring the family and friends and experience the LOVE the owners, staff, volunteers, and animals have to share.

My family has had a membership for the last couple of years and we all feel that it is money well spent. The new owners, staff and volunteers are wonderful. Every time we visit the zoo, we are amazed at what is changed from when we last visited. This is a place where everyone should be taking their family to visit.

We had a great time at the zoo today. Our 7 year old daughter loved feeding and petting the animals. We can not wait to see Jimmies new house next time we come back.

We will be back on the weekend to feed Jimmie .

I am a member and spend alot of time here my kids constantly want to go and we all love it. I think alot of people remember the way it was with the old owners and thats how I was, but when I heard it was bought I decided to see if it had changed and oh boy did it ever. All the animals are well taken care of an loved an they are always making it better. So please forget about how it was years ago, and give it another chance I assure you it wont disappoint! The animals need you!

Had a great time there today with my 1 yr old niece. At first I was worried because the parking lot was full but inside the zoo didn't seem crowded at all. We could get a good look at all the animals and they all seemed happy and well cared for. I especially enjoyed all the beautiful peacocks that strolled about the park. Around noon we enjoyed the lunch we packed at the picnic table area where we sat by the little stream & watched the kids on the swings & sliding boards. I can't wait to go again next year!

Great Zoo.. Out in the country, staff is very friendly, reasonable fees and prices for snacks, souvenirs, and food to feed some of the animals by hand. My daughter loves to feed Jimmy the Giraffe leaves!

My family had our first visit today. I think my boyfriend and I had more fun than the kids did. All of the animals are happy, well-cared for, and incredibly domesticated. Even the chameleon wanted to be held. (He walked from his hideout in the corner opposite of where I was admiring him from, over to me and tried to climb threw the glass onto my fingers!) The tigers were absolutely breath taking. I was five feet from a tiger who was nuzzling the staff through her enclosure like she's an over-grown kitten. The two staff members I saw the most were absolutely phenomenal! He walked over as we were standing at the tiger enclosure and started introducing us to Alexis and Miracle, and telling us all about them. He didn't have to do that. You can tell by talking to him that he genuinely cares for the animals. The girl that we interacted with next was just as amazing. Getting Hope and Louie to stand for the crowd as she feeds them strawberries. And then we saw her again as my kids fed Jimmie the giraffe leaves. That was all they talked about the rest of the day.

The peacocks roam freely, which is awesome. I'm curious as to how many there are, but my guess is at least ten or fifteen. You turn around and you're four feet from a peacock! You can buy a cup of food to feed certain more tame animals which my boys really enjoyed. And they did not even feel any animal's teeth. Once. There is something really cool about being able to tell your kids it's okay to stick their hands in the cages with the animals and let the animal eat out of their hand.

They have a very spacious picnic area with two separate playground areas and large (and clean!!) picnic tables. We spent about five hours here today and I think it's the best five hours we've spent together in a while! (And we just went to Hershey Park two weekends ago!!)

Some of my friends were trying to convince me to go to the DC zoo today instead of PPZ. When they heard the stories my boys came home telling, they can't wait to go!

If you haven't been here yet, you're just plain missing out. If you love animals, you need to set aside three hours and go. You won't regret it!

We had an awesome time at the zoo! My son absolutely loved all of the animals. It was very family friendly and my 2 yr old got to carry his cup of animal feed purchased at entrance and was so excited he got to feed them himself. Paths and walkways were clear of debris for our safety and the animal areas were clean. A few of the employees and took time to explain some of the animals and answer questions we had. It was a great family day with our 2 yr old son.....we are very much looking forward to taking our daughter along with is this year when she is old enough!

Today was our first visit to Plumpton Park Zoo! I had heard some not so great things about the zoo from a friend in the past. But the Zoo reopened late last year and that same friend told me things had really changed and to give it try. I was very happy I did ! This is a great place to take the kids. For other mom's out there, I would highly recommend the Plumpton Park Zoo. It was clean. The staff was friendly. Most of all I felt safe. The memberships are a real bargain. We are going to make this a regular trip. My boys (ages 4 and 6) had a great time. They loved the donkeys! We will be back again.

Truly Sad...

I've worked in several locally owned pet shops, and have had the great experience of taking care of and cleaning up after animals and exotic pets. This zoo is horrible, disgusting and INHUMANE. All the animals had stagnant water in their bowls with bugs and algae in them. You can byt a cup of food at the entrance, i guess they expect you to feed the animals, because little to none of them had food, and this was around 11:00 am, so i doubt that they had already just eaten the food. Just a few examples of what I mean are:

-The giraffe had a pen area as small as a master bedroom, and for something thats over twice the size of a full grown horse, this was little to no room for it.

-The tiger was starved and rabid looking, had spots of hair missing on its coat.

-The parrots were in tiny cages, that hadnt been cleaned in months maybe, with piles of fecal matter about half a food high, below the spot that they sat in all day.

-The alligator pen, which was as small as a bath tub, had about an inch of dirty water, not enough to cover their mouths when laying in the deepest part.

The place was an example of animal hoarding, animal neglect, and smelled like death, due to its dirty-ness.

I would put no satrs if possible, but this site dosn't allow it...

The Zoo was closed in 2010 for several months and new ownership took over. While the two negative reviews are a bit dramatic, the Zoo was in rough shape. The Zoo has been greatly improved Since the fall of 2010, so please consider the responses after that date as accurately describing the Zoo. Thank you.

Roadside HORROR!

I took my daughter to Plumpton Park Zoo on Saturday, taking the word of one mother to the next. Imagine my surprise to find it to be a roadside death trap in a crazy man's backyard. The smell is repulsive! The whole place is filthy. My 8 year old started crying when she saw the condition of the animals in their cages- which are nothing more than plywood and chickenwire. We got out of their fast and I called to report the "zoo"s condition from my car. The officer I spoke with said that the owner has a long history of violations. He also told me that roadside zoos are extremely dangerous for visitors. Poor care of the animals can increase you and your families risk of bacterial infections. Remember parents, diseases passed from animals to humans are not preventable by sanitizer gel. If you do choose to take your child there, bring soap and water! Also, there is not enough barriers to keep a curious kid away from the enclosures of some fairly disgruntled animals. Be aware of this when you visit- if your child can fit an arm in, then a tiger or bear can fit theirs out. Leave a wide gap! As for me, I will NEVER be returning there. Not only for the concern of the animals safety, but for my child's saftey as well. I am absolutely disgusted by the place!!!!! I will be following up on my complaint and would love to see that place closed. Plumpton Park claims to be a rescue zoo, but in reality- the animals there still need to be rescued. I urge anyone who reads this to consider a longer drive to a reputable zoo. Its worth your child's health.

First I would like to point out that the Zoo closed in 2010 and was reopened by new ownership. I encourage anyone who is concerned about this review to check our current reviews or our Facebook page for up to date information and current reviews. http://www.facebook.com/plumptonparkzoo Finally, hand sanitizer is comprised of what is commonly know as rubbing alcohol mixed into a gel for easy application. Hand sanitizer kills 99.9% of ALL bacteria.
