- Founded in 1963 and headquartered in Reno, Nev., Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is a nonprofit organization that provides support for girl scouting and girl scout troops. It serves more than 6,000 girls with assistance of over 1,000 volunteers in nearly 20 counties in Nevada. It offers programs in the areas of personal finance, sports, environmental educational and math. The organization provides leadership development programs for Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. It additionally offers gang violence and drug and pregnancy prevention programs. The organization conducts a variety of activities, such as horseback riding, canoeing, hiking and rope course. It also organizes trips to museums, theaters, and dance and music shows. Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is a part of Girl Scouts of the USA, which is one of the premier leadership skill development organizations for girls. Founded in 1912, it serves more than 3.7 million girls worldwide.
