I've worked with Tom on a number of occasions over the years - first, as manager of business events for a museum and now as a manager within a large organization, so I feel well qualified to assess Tom's expertise with catering events. His experience at overall event organization is very evident, and he goes above and beyond to ensure an excellent experience for the customer.
Tom was the first person I thought of for a very important, large event we are holding in just a few weeks. I needed the event to be in professional, capable hands. Tom's extensive experience in catering relieved a lot of stress for me as I knew every aspect of the event would be covered down to the smallest detail.
The food at Q Shack is very high quality barbecue - we've had a number of compliments from business and professional guests at events, and a number of attendees requested his business card for future events.
Tom also has a new restaurant and catering business in addition which sources local and organic foods and sounds delicious. Can't wait to try it. I recommend Tom's professionalism and high quality food very highly. Tom will make your event an experience that your guests will warmly remember.

I used the Q Shack for a surprise birthday party for 60 people. I was worried because my original contact left Q Shack before the party took place, but my worries were unfounded. Simon and Pamela did a wonderful job of setting up and cleaning up, and put us at ease regarding the complications of setting up in small rooms. My only words of advice to them would be that they could improve communication, given the transition from one catering manager to another. But the food was terrific, the service personable, and the employees proactive. I wish I had another party coming up so I could use them again!

Today I read mixed reviews on the Q Shack and thought maybe we should try it out to judge for ourselves. We had a craving for some smoked brisket. We ordered the tailgate #1 thinking leftovers for work. Not so. I do not quite know what we received but what was supposed to be brisket. It was a tasteless piece of meat that looked like a roast and not cut as brisket but pieces pulled from the meat. The second meat the pork was dry and not sure what they were trying to do with this. The ribs were OK but again dry. The side of greens was griddy with dirt and the side of macaroni was not good either. No smoked flavor or taste in any of the food. The sauces were awful. Will never go there again.

Awful the meat was dry and tasteless, the coleslaw was cabbage and mayo, the ""sweet Tea"" was bitter and instead of hiring locals the owner imports non-english speaking immigrants nobody there could understand what we wanted and our order was wrong. I emailed the owner and he called me and harrased me on a sunday night. There is NO southern cooking here or customer service, this yankee thinks he is still in brooklyn. Dont eat here go somewhere else.

Tom and crew catered my sons Bar Mitzvah party this past weekend. The brisket and smoked turkey were a tremendous hit. The kids absolutely loved the mac n cheese as did the adults who raided the kids buffet. Desserts were very good, particularly the cupcakes. In addition the food served during cocktail hour was also great. Tom was a pleasure to work with. His staff was friendly and sweet. I could not have asked for more. Thanks to Tom and his staff.

Here's a follow up on the neighborhood party. The food arrived on time and the delivery staff were very nice and very helpful. The food was packaged very well and was delicious. Everyone raved about the quality, tenedrness, and most of all, the flavor. We will be using Q-Shack again for our outings. Many thanks.
Contacted Q-Shack to arrange for BBQ for a neighborhood party. I was having some difficulty getting through to place my order because they were so busy. After reading several reviews here, I contacted the owner, Tom Meyer directly. He returned my call within a few hours. He appologized for any difficulty and then made all the arrangements for my order himself. He was extremely nice and very professional. He threw in several very nice extras for my trouble so I was very pleased with the arrangements. I have eaten at Q-Shack several times in the past and Tom's business plan includes sourcing as many supplies as possible from local farmers and businesses. It shows in the quality of his food. My wife and I went there again last Friday and were very pleased. The ribs were fall off the bone tender but still had a good chew and portions were just right. The french fries were excellent and cooked to order. My wife loved the mashed sweet potatoes. The restaurant was clean and the help was very friendly and prompt. Can't go wrong with North Raleigh Q-Shack . I've been to them all in this area and this one is arguably the best.

We had the Q Shack cater our wedding of 150 guests. The Q Shack offered us a full service catering; covering all rentals; linens, napkins, glasses etc… They also supplied us with alcohol, appetizers, the buffet, and desert. They were also nice enough to setup decorations for the reception. There were two Q Shack employees that were at the event. They did a great job of serving our guests alcohol and keeping the buffet full of great food! Our guest were ranting and raving about the mac and cheese and the banana pudding! Tom and his staff did a great job. Tom’s full service catering allowed us to only work with one vendor; which made things so much easier. The Q Shack was also VERY affordable; this was important to us because we(the bride and groom) were 100% funding the wedding. Our wedding day was the best day of our lives. The Q Shack played an integral part in making this day a memorable one! Thanks Q Shack!
The Q-Shack catered our wedding and it was truly incredible. Literally, anything we asked for, he was able to make happen. He even came up with things not part of his typical menu. The room was decorated beautifully too. The food was amazing and Tom made it look effortless and is a really hard worker. We love that he buys locally and supports other local businessmen. I would highly recommend him and think he's the best caterer around. We paid a very reasonable price for high quality food and our guests loved it. It was a nice way to have a larger wedding without sacrificing our budget. After all, who doesn't love good BBQ and hushpuppies?
The Q-Shack is a really great place! My husband and I really love going here because you get quality food for a great price! The food is fantastic. We really like the beef brisket, onion rings, and baked beans. Tom, the owner catered our wedding and we could not have been happier. I got so many compliments on the food and we were so thrilled that he was able to make our vision a reality. The owner is a really nice guy and a hard worker. I highly recommend giving it a try and know you're supporting a great local business--not some ho-hum chain.
We had a catered lunch today from The Q Shack, the meat was digestible but the rest of the food was horrible!! The hush puppies tastes like they were two days old, the macaroni & cheese was dry, the BBQ Beans were terrible!! worst lunch we have ever had. I hope we never get food from this place again!!!
We ate at the Q shack today. I was the only person in line and it took about 5 minutes for someone to walk over and take my order.
We had the brisket and the smoked pork shoulder sandwich. The meat was tasty, but the brisket tasted closer to a good pot roast rather than a smoked brisket. Don't get me wrong, it tasted fine, but coming from the midwest, it did not taste like smoked brisket to me. It tasted like it was started in a smoker, but then finished quickly in a oven more like a smoky roast. Tender, but not fall apart in your sandwich tender like I am used to.
The pork was tasty, good flavor. Not really smoky, but tasty.
The slaw was hardly dressed, and we received really small portions of slaw. It tasted like they had just pulled it out of the bag before they gave it to us. Very cabbagey. For a $2 side, it was like 30 cents worth of dry cabbage.
The sauces are so so. One vinegar based, one sweet thicker sauce.
The other sides were okay. Nothing I would crave for a future visit, but nothing that I would not eat if it was on my plate.
They got our bill wrong, but after restating my order three times I just paid for the extra side I did not order. For two it was just over $20.
Portions were average. It was okay, just not great. That said, I have had mostly bad bbq in Raleigh. So if you are just looking for decent bbq in Raleigh, it's probably worth stopping by.
really have to disagree with the previous post. My family and I eat at the Q-Shack once a week and have always had positive experiences. They have catered parties at my home as well as my office and the service is always prompt and friendly. Being a Texas native, the biggest draw to the shack for me is their delicious and authentic BBQ that is really hard to find in this area. Brisket tastes like it came from my favorite restaurant in Dallas! It is served fast, but still fresh. Not only is the food great, but the employees. I regularly use them for large office orders and the food is always ready when I pick it up and I am in and out fast which is good when on a busy work schedule. Having my hands full one trip, an employee that was not even on the clock carried my order out to my car. Many other employees at my office and friends share similar experiences and have nothing but positive things to say!

Today was the second time recently that I have had a bad experience with The Q Shack at North Hills. Last time was just horrible service - I had to wait both times for them to stop socializing behind the counter in order to take my order. Both times I was the only one in line so it wasn't like they were so busy. They never ask if there is anything else you need or say thank you!!! Today Luke was just flat out rude and tossed my bag up on the counter with no thank you - NOTHING!!! I'm done with that place for good. This is two times in a row and I am not the only one this has happened to. Bad service and rude employees = no more business from me. Plus today they shorted me my side dish!!! Too expensive for crappy service and to be shorted!!

After ordering meals for 4, I was told that they would not accept a restaurant coupon which was specifically for their location. They said that they had cancelled the printing of it three months ago. My coupon was printed 6 months ago and it said it was good for one year.
They said ""too bad"" but there was nothing they could do. They would not even give us free sodas to go with our paid order. The man in charge said ""I can't do that"". Hmmm. I think he could have. But I can't go back there! (neither can my coworkers who also have coupons)

I honestly love love love the Q shack. The que is sensational, but when I saw that it on a kid friendly list -- I had to speak out. They have no changing tables! You cannot be a kid-friendly restaurant and not have a changing table. Besides having a kid meal on the menu, there is essentially no child-friendly aspect to the place. No crayons, limited high chairs, etc. Enjoy it on a lunch break from work -- but do not bring the kids unless they are potty trained.
