This place is dishonest and unethical. Called them for a quote to mount and balance tires that I wanted to bring to have installed and was given a price. Stopped in to have wok done but they were too busy and gave me an appointment to go back. Confirmed price and was given same quote I had previously gotten by phone. Went back on day of appointment and confirmed price again for the third time. After work was done, went to pay and an idiot, assuming he was the owner, comes out and charges me an additional $28. This was after the tires were on the car. Said he didn't make enough money on my installation and had to charge me more. This is fraud. Filed dispute with credit card company. I will never go back and I will share this story with everyone I know. Beware! They will rip you off

Great service goes extra step to solve problems

Bob Day and the group at Davies Tire on Islington Street in downtown Portsmouth are a wonderful crew of mechanics. I have to say as a woman going to the garage for auto repair I was prepared to be taken advantage of. I expected to be treated as I had been treated in the past by other gararages, "oh it's a woman and she doesn't have a clue". However, Bob Day and his mechanics not only explained what my car needed, but why it was needed and worked with me to get the best price for my budget.

I will be referring all my family, freinds, and co-workers to the crew down at Davies Tire. They are the kind of garage that not only wants you for a customer but they want you to come back. This is one time where I truely hope that the 10 people tell 10 people thing really works in their favor.

These guys are excellent. They find out what the problem is with your car, give you a call with an estimate and options. For example, if you have an exhaust issue which can be patched, they'll let you know and give you an idea on how long it might be until you need to replace the pipe. Sometimes we need the cheap repair to buy time until we can afford the replacement! It's great that they give you those sort of options and explain them clearly, especially when you have a tight budget.The other great thing about them is that they keep excellent records, which is a far cry from a place in Dover that I had a tough go with. Highly recommended.Oh-- only drawback is that you almost always need to make an appointment a couple of days in advance. But better than going to the place that can take you right away every time because they have no return customers, right?
