Founded in 1920, the J.M. Wilson Corporation is a managing general agency and a surplus lines insurance broker that provides specialty insurance products to independent insurance agents for risks that are not available in the standard marketplace. The agency is responsible for representing the insurance company; marketing the insurance products made available to independent agents; underwriting the risks that are presented for the coverage; and providing the coverage that is desired. Its services include issuing the insurance contract; processing changes to the policy after it is in force; providing answers to coverage questions; and helping the agent, insured and insurance company when there is a claim to be settled. It is also responsible for collecting premiums from agents and paying the companies along with many other ongoing functions. J.M. Corporation maintains an office in Portage, Mich.
