A. Wilbert s Sons is a real estate and landscape design company, developing golf course properties in Louisiana. The family business dates back to 1848, when Anton Wilbert came from Germany and settled in Plaquemine, La. He bought land for timber to support his trade, and over the next century-and-a-half, bought more land and diversified so that today the company owns a total of 121,000 acres in 10 parishes in Louisiana and four counties in Mississippi. The Island, a sprawling 400-acre country club, residential and golfing community, is neatly tucked between Bayou Plaquemine and Bayou Jacob. The Island's 18-hole championship layout is becoming known by golfers around south Louisiana as the perfect destination for a quiet retreat or corporate outing. Recognized for their consistent quality, the Island is one of the 12 courses that make up Louisiana's Audubon Golf Trail, and the closest to Baton Rouge, La.
