My husband and I, along with 2 other couples decided to go to the Baltimore House on a Saturday night for dinner and coctails. Bad decision! To start, our waitress looked like she fell out of bed and rolled over into work. She brought our drinks as ordered (surprisingly) and proceeded to take our orders. So there were 3 couples on separate checks. I don't consider that to be too difficult, but in taking the orders she confusingly jumped around the table taking orders, going back to different people at different times asking questions about our orders. One of the bottles of beer had some sort of slime-like substance on it and the label, which was not a sticker, came off on my friend's hand (umm...what?). While waiting for our food and appitizer, the men ordered another beer, which came AFTER our food finally came. Well, on to the food. I ordered the coconut shrimp which consisted of 5 toast-like burnt wafers, and 2 other people ordered their crabcakes. The menu said the crabcakes were 80% crabs, but they were more like burnt hockey pucks filled with stuffing. When I told the waitress that my food was burnt and didn't want it, she told me that's how they make it and offered to make more. Why would I want another plate of burnt food? Neither people who ordered the crabcakes could even stomach eating their food and told her so. She clearly became irate and told us she would send the manager over. Well I could see the manager coming and knew it was her because she had attitude written all over her. She came to our table, never apologized and proceeded to tell us this is just how they cook their food and that's how it's always been. Finally our check came. Yes one check, we had asked for 3 separate checks. When we asked for the check to be split the waitress scrunched her nose and clenched her teeth, grabbed the check and walked away. When she came back with 3 checks, the orders were all ixed up. One check actually only had everyone's drinks and an appitizer on it. when we pointed it out, she practically growled and started writing stuff all over the check with her pen. we were completely confused. We put our credit cards in the slots with our checks and handed them to her. When she came back she had mixed up all our credit cards and ran different people's checks and the wrong cards! When we pointed this out to her, she was furious and and asked us what was going on and that she had no idea how this happened. ( well we were thinking the same thing) When she came back, yet again, one of the couple's credit card receipt had another couple's bill on it in the tip section! Finally the ""manager"" came back over and was short with us when we asked how the charges would be fixed in our personal accounts. Never apologized for the food, the service, the several check mix ups, or the bank account issues. Overall, the whole paying our bill process took about 40 minutes. The experience was tasteless, disgusting, appauling, enraging, and etched in our memories forever. It was definitely a night out we won't soon forget.
I play in a band that was scheduled to play at the Baltimore House. I decided to also have my wife's birthday party that night. I went online to get directions, and happened across this site with reviews. After reading a few of them I was a little apprehensive, as wife is very big on customer service and if 1 thing went wrong she would be upset for the rest of the night. I called in advance to make sure they knew that I would have guests there, and since I'm in the band I would have to rely on the staff to make it a pleasant event Well I have to say it couldn't have been better! The staff was great, everyone loved the food, and the bartenders were on point. They had a section reserved for the guests, they gave us plastic plates and forks without us even asking. They even gave us candles for the cake (I forgot to bring some). I would definitely recommend the Baltimore House to anyone!
I reciently had the crableg special!!! All you could eat and the legs were as fresh as I ever had. I used to live in North Carolina on the coast. The legs here were the best I've had in years. I can't wait to go back and try the blue crabs. They also told me they have soft shell crabs when in season. That's unheard of this ffar inland!!! The service was good and the people (including the local customers) were all very nice. I can't wait to get back for more
The quality of the food was horrible, cold, small quantity, we had friends meet us there for a celebration, waited forever for our cocktails, the waiter apologized over and over again, however, we considered the fact that the servers are on the firing line with face to face customers and they can only serve what is put in front of them, so we bit the bullet and stayed, after our foul food, we discovered the vinegar bottle (that we used) had dead knats floating in it. No managers were available to complain to and the server was practically scared to death to tell them, so not to jeapordize her job, we paid our bill and since we were waiting for more friends to meet up with we sat at the bar, which was not busy at all and waited forever for a cocktail and witnessed the bartender arguing and screaming at a server because the server was expressing a complaint from yet another customer, only to be screamed at by the bartender, horrible, I felt so bad for this girl. Never, ever again. This place is horrible.
I felt like someone was playing a cruel joke on me throughout the entire visit.
I went to the Baltimore House with my family for my dad's 50th birthday and I feel terrible that he had to suffer through this nightmare on such a special day. Our waitress was clueless about the menu and the quality of food was pathetic. My sister ordered butterfly shrimp- the meal was $17 and when her ordered arrived there were only 3 shrimp, all over cooked. The rest of us ordered the Habachi buffet. About 50% of what the waitress had told us would be there was not. All the meat was of the worst quality (I would not even give it to my dog). The sushi looked as if it was bought pre-made from a convenience store and tasted even worse. They could not even get the rice right- it was horribly dry and who knows how long it had been sitting there. I am convinced the salad came from a bag.
The whole restaurant was way too dark. Worst of all we felt as if we could not tell our server how awful of a time we were having because she was only a young teen and did not know how to handle our problems. We could not find and adult worker to speak with.
I can't believe this place is even still allowed to operate. The owner's should be horribly embarrassed. I have had more enjoyable food, service, and atmosphere in a Sheetz.
We went there for my step sons birth day party, The paper place mats had oil on them, the table was filthy, the utensils were dirty, the all you can eat crab legs were cold, the iced tea was old, and the bathrooms were dirty. Overall I would have to say that we will never eat here again. We have eaten at the Baltimore house many times over the pas ten years and the quality has dropped off each year. Maybe if they spent as much money on food prep and cleaning as they did on the upgraded decor they would be worth visiting,
I have been to this place three times. I will not hold it against an establishment for one bad experience anyone can have a bad day. Out of the three times I have been the service was horrible at best. I will say that it was a little better at the bar. The appetizers were good. The seafood entrees were average, I have no complaints. For the price it was worth it. However, the burgers and steak were disappointing. They were very dry and the wait for the food to arrive was very long. I do not recommend this place for anyone who is looking for anything more than a bar.
you don't have to go to the movies to see a drama/horror/comedy...just come to the baltimore house!!! there are more fights that occur there than in a boxing ring!!! if it's such a family business then why don't they maintain that reputation??? it really is a joke and has been going down hill for years! the only time you hear something decent about this restaurant is if it's from somebody close to the family. such a beautiful building with an ugly staff of workers! hey, don't blame me! that's just my opinion!
For all of the people talking badly about the Baltimore House, they're just going on the untrue rumors that someone else probably told them. Anyways, family owned to me means real people, good food, none of that corporate smoke blown up your a_ _, and yes maybe a little inconsistency. Because maybe that family will try to help anybody and give them a chance by giving them a job. And whoever said places like this don't last forever, its been there for over 20 years and I don't think it's going anywhere soon. Also I think people expect too much, it's not somewhere you'd put a suit and tie on to go eat. Anyways I think the owner tries really hard to run that place and that's all they can do. Overall it's food is great and so are the staff.
We had a great time at Baltimore house when the band imposter was playing. Food and service were excellent, although the steamed shrimp were a bit over cooked. Overall, the people - customers and staff - were great. Very gay friendly. The decor had a very New England Fish house feel to it which was fun.
The Baltimore House makes you feel like you are at a family restaurant by the ocean. When some people hear Seafood they expect the red carpets to roll out at the door but not here, it is a more casual atmosphere. The large staff there seems to know each other very well and the food is execlent. I have eaten at many seafood restaurant in Pittsburgh and I would definitly say that Baltimore House is the best around.
Is there a thing as a good server? Our host lead us all over, they were seriously understaffed in both quantity and quality. The waitress disappeared for minutes on end, our drinks were dry more often than not. The Prime Rib, one of the specialities, was dry. And the place was uncomfortably warm. Might be a great bar to hang with buds, but not a family place for a birthday.
