Founded in 1957, the Arizona Humane Society is a private, nonprofit organization that provides shelters for homeless animals. The society safeguards, heals and rescues animals. It provides spaying and neutering services. The Arizona Humane Society also offers life-saving care services for more than 18,000 injured and distressed animals annually. The society maintains a fleet of radio-equipped emergency ambulances. It additionally features a hospital that provides medical and surgical treatment services for over 5,000 animals. The Arizona Humane Society offers behavioral training programs. The society accepts litters of domestic rats, mice, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets and small birds surrendered by individuals.
